Yay, finally ready to post this! Or at least, the first part of this. It's been split up into three parts due to length constraints, and the next two parts will be posted when I finish editing them a final time.
Introduction
All right, there are plenty of movie analyses out there, but not all of them have covered all the things I want to talk about, and I finally got inspired to get off my ass and write all of this down. The following reviews are my personal thoughts about the first seven Star Trek movies, the ones involving The Original Series characters. I both ramble and analyze my thoughts a lot, but as I hope the rambling and analysis shows, I have thought quite a bit about this stuff; however, they're still my opinions and I realize other people might disagree -- if you do, please just be polite.
Because this essay is 25,000+ words long, I've split it into three posts. The first post covers the introduction, The Motion Picture, and The Wrath of Khan. The second post covers The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home. The third post covers The Final Frontier, The Undiscovered Country, and Generations.
Also note that these reviews are heavily discussing Kirk/Spock (though not entirely), so if that's not your cup of tea and you still want to read, be warned, because I do look at a lot of things through a Kirk/Spock lens. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy!

Part Two

Apr. 11th, 2010 11:52 pmToday I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D IMAX on the biggest screen in Britain. It was rather more expensive than I like my movies (though I imagine I'm also a bit spoiled from having worked at a theater and gotten to see movies for free), but worth it, not just for the movie (which I very much enjoyed) but because I actually got invited to see it. When I first got here a lot of people just seemed to click into their own groups and I was sort of drifting on the outskirts, and pretty much had to invite myself if I was going to do anything with anyone. It's taken me several weeks, but finally I'm not the one making the first move all the time, and that's worth more than expensive cinema.
Anyway, ( Brief spoilers for the film )
Oh, also, before the movie started my friend and I were discussing books and she just asks me "So you read fanfiction, right?" Apparently that's pretty obvious. XD I said yes, and for some reason added that I write it too, and she got so excited. She said writing fic made me like sixteen times cooler. Best reaction to the writing-fanfic revelation ever.

Jul. 22nd, 2009 11:24 pmSo today I had something that has become very rare: a five-hour stretch of free time. So I thought, hey, I'll finally get around to watching Torchwood: Children of Earth! I'd been waiting to watch it until I could watch it all together, and I'm glad now, because wow I would have hated having to wait as they aired. XD

When I was leaving Tacoma for Spokane on Friday, we listened to the driver's iPod. Mostly I didn't much care for his music selections, but the very first thing he put on was Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. And I can't listen to that song (or Don't Bring Me Down) without thinking of Love and Monsters.

metafandom, and periodically I find something I'm interested in and that inspires some thoughts of my own. Today cupidsbow posted meta on modes of fannish discourse. I think that's an incredibly interesting topic, though what it made me think about is really only tangentially related.
( Some meta about my own meta, plus shipping and fandom in general using Doctor Who and Doctor/Rose as an example )

Aug. 15th, 2008 10:53 amI've been far more interested in the Olympics this year than I anticipated. Certainly more than I ever have been before. I'd watch the gymnastics, and that'd be about it. Now I've been watching pretty much everything that NBC has shown, even though sometimes I wish the commentators would just shut up.
But anyway. I've been reading this one post-JE fic, but I finally had to stop because the Doctor and Rose were...more messed up than I think they would be.

Jun. 15th, 2008 12:02 amI've been plagiarized again. This is the original, posted more than four years ago. And I think this is the third time I've been plagiarized. WTF is up with that? I mean, yeah it's sorta flattering that someone likes my story enough to want to claim it, but...MY STORY. NO TOUCHY. If you like it that much, rec it, don't steal it. And this one seems particularly stupid--not only did she lift the entire thing word-for-word, she kept the title. People usually at least change the title. Gah. I've reported it, so hopefully it'll get removed soon, but knowing the ff.net management, I can't be sure. *sigh*
In other news, I--unsurprisingly--have more thoughts about DW. I've made a couple other posts about Ten's character arc, especially as it relates to the Lonely God thing, and Midnight sparked those thoughts again. Spoilers for 4x10.

Jun. 8th, 2008 11:46 pmToday I went to a Renfaire up at Lake Tahoe, and it was completely awesome. My old bodice didn't fit anymore, so I got a new one, along with some other stuff. I spent...rather a lot of money, but it was worth it, and I don't expect to splurge on anything else anytime soon.
The Faire, plus the lovely chat I was in last night where a bunch of us ranted about Forest of the Dead, left me in a much better mood today. But because I apparently can't shut up even about things I don't like...
