Year in fic meme, because I actually wrote fic in 2011! This version stolen from [livejournal.com profile] rae1013.

[livejournal.com profile] shinyopals is a cruel, cruel person. I was silly enough to ask her to give me names for the cliff, shag, marry meme, and she gave me GEORGE W. BUSH, STEVEN MOFFAT, AND DAVROS.

i. I feel like doing Roman numerals today.

ii. I just got finished watching a movie and doing a write up of it for a class. It wasn't even a very interesting movie! Well, the content was interesting, but the performance was boring. Eh.

iii. Last week the school had a career fair, and I went because, well, not too long before I'm done with school. I talked to this guy from Grassroots Campaigns, which does things for groups such as Planned Parenthood, the DNC, the ACLU, Amnesty International, and so on. I expressed interest. Then today they were in the student union building again and I talked to them and they said they were doing interest meetings for summer internships today! With interviews! And I should come!

I agreed, because I need a summer internship. But then it was just omg unexpected interview! And I don't even have a resume!

So I put together a resume. And I got dressed up in interview clothes, and brought my resume with me to the interest meeting. No one else who showed up was in interview clothes, or had a resume. I hope that bodes well for me.

I think the interview went pretty well. My resume centered on my political experience and volunteer work, which is basically what this organization is about. I think I came across fairly well.

And the guy said they're going to let me know within forty-eight hours! Eep. Much sooner than I was expecting. I'm going to be nervous until then.

This is actually not the internship I want the most--I still haven't done applications for editing positions, which is what I really want. But if I do get this, it will be a big relief that I at least have something, even if I can't get my first choices.

iv. I FINISHED FIC TODAY. More than that, I finished another fic in the With a Little Help from My Friends universe, so now I officially have an actual series going. I also have a better name for the universe itself, but I don't want to reveal it yet. :p

But the fics in this series seem to just grow. Like, the first fic I was thinking would be about 3000 words when I wrote it, and I ended up with 10,000. This new fic I was thinking would be 2000, and it ended up at 5000. I'm not complaining since I'm pretty happy with the pacing as it turned out, but wow, quite the discrepancy between my expectations and the reality. :p

v. I did the association meme, and [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals gave me these five things:

I'm thinking I will soon need a new power cord--it seems like I can't shift my computer an inch without the damn thing deciding it can't feel the cord.

Dear Apple,

Why are replacement power cords $79? Seriously? Almost eighty dollars for a cable? Hmph. I'm probably going to have to pay it, since I might go insane without my computer, but I think that's a bit excessive.

No love,

Here's the OTP meme, gacked from...so many people. :p Let's see if I can actually think of 15 OTPs and ways to describe them that aren't too obvious or too obscure...

Pick up to 15 OTPs.

I have not been around very much the past several days because I had a bunch of books out of the library and I had to obsessively read them. XD But now I've finished them, so I'm back, but still don't have that much content. Instead, have a meme. Seen all over the flist.

That Doctor Who meme I've seen before but hadn't managed to do until now )
rynne: (can't be too fond of books)
I have something over 400 books in my room and it feels like I've read them all too many times to want to read them again right now. *sigh* I have books from the library, but I'm saving them for the trip to see family when I likely won't have internet.

(Though on that note--lovely [livejournal.com profile] yuletide writer, if I don't comment right away, it's not because I don't like it. I'm going to be gone from the 24th to the 27th with most likely no internet access. I will comment when I get back.)

Anyway. I don't want to read my books right now--or rather, I want to read books, but not the ones I have. So instead I'm watching The West Wing. Gaza and Memorial Day, because I have the fifth season here and I love those episodes. Especially Josh. I have a big thing for guys who do major things for the ones they love. Like rushing to Germany despite the international crisis and being supposed to advise the president on it. Or like burning up a sun just to say goodbye. *g*

Also like yelling about how you want to kill everyone who had a hand in it, despite being a total pacifist who feels faint at the sight of blood. Or being proud of Rose for joining Torchwood and trying to find a way to blast through universes and have no problems with her gun, despite being very unhappy with everyone else who does these things.

Ah, I have such a weakness for relationships like these. :D

So, speaking of the kind of relationship I love, and also the fact that I am bored with my books--anyone have any recommendations? Books especially, but also shows and movies and so on.

Also, fic writing meme:

If you could force me to write anything, what would it be?

Please answer--I'm really quite interested. :D
rynne: (bad wolf)
So I basically just spent an hour and a half writing a post in [livejournal.com profile] theemptywriter on why I don't want Moffat's views in television. With this thing, on one hand, I feel like I should say that I welcome debate, and of course people are welcome to post their thoughts, but...you're not going to change my mind on this issue. You're just not.

I've been busier this break than I anticipated. I spent a lot of time with my friends here, which of course was wonderful and I don't regret that, but it left me a lot less time to get fandomy things done than I'd hoped. I'm going back to school tomorrow morning, and once I get there, I'm going to have to get moving on some things.

I am reviewing my source for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, though. I've got an idea for the fic, but it's been a long time since I finished the source, so I definitely need the refresher, and I'll be bringing the important stuff back with me.

Here's a little meme, most recently seen on [livejournal.com profile] ariastar's journal, though I've seen it elsewhere as well.

Bit of personal rambling )

Now back to reviewing my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide source before packing and going to bed.
rynne: (guitar talk)
Home now. Have been up since six and have not had any caffeine, so am also feeling quite tired. But I got home at about eleven and went to lunch and the mall with friends and in about an hour or so I'm going to go to a bar with one of them, so this might be a day without caffeine. Those don't happen very often.

I don't really have much to say right now, so have the fandom relationships meme I took from [livejournal.com profile] krabapple.

Fandom relationships meme )

Tomorrow I have my first test of the semester. Ack! I did manage to write my take-home essay, which drew heavily on one of the featured chapters in the test, so I'm sure I've got anything related to that down. I've been studying the other chapters too, and I've attended every class and done well on every lab, so I think I can do well on the test... *crosses fingers*

Now to distract myself, have a fic meme I gacked from [livejournal.com profile] unfolded73.

Fic meme )

Speaking of fics, and especially "With a Little Help from My Friends", there's more I want to write in that universe, but I'm not sure about tone. The first fic is funny and vaguely cracky and tries not to talk itself too seriously, but at heart, I don't think I'm a humor writer. Most of my ideas just won't be written that way.

I've never really written a universe of fics before. Well, I sort of have, with "Walking the Sky" and "Feet on the Ground", but I didn't want to change tones there, so I wasn't worried about that aspect of it, at least.

But what I'm sort of wondering is if a cohesive universe needs to establish and continue a certain tone. I mean, tone can shift within a fic, but it does have something overall. I would characterize "With a Little Help from My Friends" as a humor fic, though it has its moments of angst, poignancy, romance, etc. But I think it's a humor fic, and a lot of the commentors appreciated that humor.

And the thing with that fic is that it would be the first fic in the universe, setting the stage for all the others. Does it also have to set the tone as well? Can I shift tone within a universe without it being jarring to readers, who might come to the fic thinking they're going to get one thing (because of familiarity with the previous fic) and instead find something quite different?

Because the next fic I have in mind does not want to be funny. It might have its moments of humor, but primarily it wants to be an exploration of some of the issues I glossed over in the previous fic, and I'm not sure I can make them funny without devaluing them. (This is not a comment saying that it's impossible for serious ideas to be written successfully in a funny manner; only one where I distrust my ability to do that.)

I want to write this fic, but I'm not sure whether or not it will be out of place. Advice welcome. *g*
rynne: (mighty pen)
Also, another fic meme totally stolen from [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar.

Post the first line from your 25 most recent fanfics and try to find a pattern.

25 first lines... )
rynne: (written word fortune)
So it looks like the DVD commentary meme is going around again, which I am always up for. I've done it before, and I always love talking about my fics, so I'm always willing to do it again. :p

I have far too many fics to list here in this entry, though. But if you're interested, you can pick one (or more, if you like) of the 75 fics on my website (for fics that I like and are over 500 words, though I've not yet updated it with my two most recent), or you can pick from the 152 fics, filks, and drabbles on my LJ fic masterlist.
rynne: (dear diary...)
I'm watching Revelation of the Daleks, which is another Davros serial. Six just said that he's nine hundred years old, and I'm pretty sure that at one point Seven says he's something like 945. I really have to wonder what RTD was thinking when he had Nine say that he was nine hundred. If we take this, plus some Eight book canon into account, Nine has to be closer to eleven hundred than nine hundred.

I think I'm just going to assume that pretending to be younger than he really is is a trait he shares with Jackie. I want Rose to find out about this and mock him. *g*

A meme I've seen around my flist:

Tell me a canon and I shall respond with my...

1. One True Pairing Ship:
2. Canon Ship:
3. "If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship:
4. "You are one sick bastard" Ship:
5. "I dabble a little" Ship:
6. "It's like a car crash" Ship:
7. "Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship:
8. "Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship:
9. "Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship:

I have many fandoms, including Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Star Wars, X-Files, West Wing, and more; if you want to know, I have more in my profile, or you can ask me.
rynne: (can't be too fond of books)
That book meme. :)

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Strike out the books you have no intention of ever reading, or were forced to read at school and hated.
5) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

100 books )

Am watching Ruby in the Smoke right now. It is totally reminding me of how much I love the Sally Lockhart books, and Sally herself. This was my first exposure to Philip Pullman, not His Dark Materials (though I love that as well), though it doesn't seem like that many people have really heard of them, especially not compared to the success of HDM. I need to read these books again.

ETA: Oh, Fred! Yay for Fred. I love Fred. He was totally one of my first literary crushes, and I'm really reminded of that now.
rynne: (guitar talk)
About me meme, seen a couple places on the flist. Considering there's now a bunch of new people after I joined Who fandom, I thought it a good idea.

You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

About me )

Some other random trivia )
rynne: (bookstack)
So Twin is gone, on her way to her summer internship. She'll be back in August, but then it'll only be a couple weeks before school starts. Little Sister, who is currently in Australia, will also be home in August. I saw her a few months ago when we went to Thailand, but it'll be nice to have her home for a bit (before all three of us leave for college :p).

And speaking of college, I finally got my housing sorted for next year. I've been trying to get things set up for weeks, but it was only this morning that I was able to get a hold of the person everyone was telling me I needed to talk to. So now I have a dorm and a roommate, which will be a bit odd, but hopefully I can make friends with her.

Last night my two best friends and I got together, and we rented The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai in the Eighth Dimension, which one of my friends and the video store clerk both raved about. It was made in 1984, and was...rather cracky. I think RTD would like it. XD But one of the characters was named Reno Nevada, which cracked all three of us up. Though I guess it wouldn't have been so funny if we didn't live in Reno, Nevada. :p

Finally, a meme I snagged from [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar.

Fic meme )
rynne: (meant to be adored)
I finished my Remix! And now it's off to beta! This is full of yay. :D But now I have to go work on the take-home essay question for the test I've got tomorrow, so have a couple memes. :p

Meme the First:

79% Geek

Hah! This is true. *g*

Meme the Second:

So I was adding some new interests to my LJ profile and found myself feeling defensive every time I typed a female name, thinking, basically, FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME, because I felt as if someone somewhere was going to be criticizing my love for them.

So, anyway, then I made a list of women who make me want to say FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME. They are far from the only women who are awesome, or the only women people need to be told to step off of, but they are the top ten I feel that way about, right now, off the top of my head.

If you want to argue with me about the awesomeness of any of these women, I am afraid I will simply be referring you to the subject line. THAT IS ALL.

I only chose women I've found to be controversial. I am sometimes boggled by the amount of hate I see on the internet for these women. Just because someone's not on this list doesn't mean I don't think she's awesome. In no particular order.

rynne: (dance!)
So I continue to be horrible about updating. Right now I'm too tired to get into LJ's asshattery, so in lieu of something serious about Life, the Internet, and Everything, have a meme.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] krabapple. Comment with one of my fandoms, and I'll reply (where applicable) with:

01. The first character I fell in love with
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't
04. The character I love that everyone else hates
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer
06. The character I would shag anytime
07. The character I'd want to be like
08. The character I'd slap
09. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

People know my fandoms, right? Harry Potter, Star Wars, X-Files, Supernatural, West Wing, various video games, anime, and books...eh, just ask if you don't know.
rynne: (mighty pen)
Oh, why not? Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] musesfool and [livejournal.com profile] ignipes.

Stump the Writer!

A -- go to the list of my fic (see my fic tags) and pick out a line or three from one of my stories. (Must be a full line, please -- no sentence fragments or speech tags or other such nonsense.)
B -- I will respond with which story of mine I think it's from.
C -- A drabble to anyone who stumps me.

I actually want people to stump me--I really need to write more.

Fic can be found here at my website, or you can check my tags under "fanfic". :)

It appears that DVD commentary meme is going around again, and I've always liked that. No one wanted to do it with me the last time I offered, but in case anyone is interested this time, you're welcome to request something. Previous commentary can be found in my tags under "fic commentary", and all fic can be found in my tags under "fanfic". :)

The name meme )

I have three and a half weeks before I go back to school. About quitting work--I know I should give at least two weeks' notice, but two weeks before I go back is the week I'm on vacation. Is it better to give notice three weeks beforehand, or just be a day or two fewer than two weeks? Also, what's the protocol for giving notice? Does it need to be written, what do I say, etc? I mean, my bosses know that I'm going back to school at the end of August, but I assume I should do something formalized.

Also, a few days ago, Twin and I finished watching the first season of X-Files. OMG. *wants Netflix to GIVE ME THE GODDAMN SECOND SEASON RIGHT NOW*

I hate summers in a desert, and what the dry heat does to my hands. *feverishly applies lotion* And fraggit, I think I've gotten more papercuts in the past month than I have in the past year; we're running out of band-aids. My hands just don't seem to like July.

[livejournal.com profile] imadra_blue, I'll probably get your fic back to you on Wednesday. Is that all right?

And, last but not least...happy birthday, Harry and JKR! :)
