Finally home. Well, I got home on Thursday night after what was probably the worst of my drives to and from school. It rained throughout Washington and Oregon, and then the sun set not long after I got into California, so I had to do the worst road in the dark. Two-lane highway in the middle of a forest with snow on the side of the road in the dark and signs warning for ice all over--gah. There was thankfully no ice, but that was about the only positive.

But when I got home there were Christmas cards waiting for me--thank you, [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals, [livejournal.com profile] imadra_blue, and [livejournal.com profile] fiery_twilight!

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is...started. *sigh* I know what I'm doing with it; it's just the words that are being stubborn. But I'm just going to power through tomorrow, and then it'll be nice to have that done. It's been a long time since I've written fic--not since [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09.

There's a New Years Resolution, then, though I don't normally go in for them. Still, next year I really hope to write more fic.

Though tonight when I was trying to write [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I heard the West Wing title music. Apparently my parents have been watching S1, so I went out and watched a couple episodes with them. S1 is definitely what got me hooked on the show, but it's not my favorite season--actually, I'm not sure I have one. Mostly what I love are various episodes rather than seasons. But anyway, my mom watched the show as it was airing (which was ten years ago now! wow), but she didn't remember very much so she kept asking me what happened later. We also discussed the politics in the show, because you know, I find I appreciate the show even more with every politics class I take.

Okay. Time to shut up here and work more on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.

Hopefully this time next Friday, I'll be home. Hopefully. Thirteen hours is a long drive for one day (and that's not counting any stops I make), so while I do intend to leave early, I'll probably get in pretty late.

[livejournal.com profile] heart_of_man came over tonight and we watched the first five episodes of The West Wing. I'd almost forgotten how much I love that show. And it seemed to be a hit with her, because she was laughing all the time. We stopped after "The Crackpots and These Women", which is one of my favorite S1 episodes. Mostly for Josh, of course, because I love Josh.

Hah. I told [livejournal.com profile] heart_of_man that I love Josh, and that he's so pretty when he angsts, and she made a comment about me and my angsty boys. This is so true! Give me a fandom and I will most likely glom onto the angstiest boy there. Also the heroes. Angsty heroes are my favorite. I just love it when people hurt and then keep going. Really gets me in my happy place. *g*

I'm...remarkably cheerful right now. I do have to write a paper this weekend, and then study for a bunch of tests all worth at least a quarter of my grade, but I spent time with a good friend and watched an awesome show and am about to read more fic about one of my angsty boys.

And? Right now "Carry On Wayward Son" came on, which is like the theme song of my angsty boys. And one of my favorite songs ever. Things are good. :D
rynne: (can't be too fond of books)
I have something over 400 books in my room and it feels like I've read them all too many times to want to read them again right now. *sigh* I have books from the library, but I'm saving them for the trip to see family when I likely won't have internet.

(Though on that note--lovely [livejournal.com profile] yuletide writer, if I don't comment right away, it's not because I don't like it. I'm going to be gone from the 24th to the 27th with most likely no internet access. I will comment when I get back.)

Anyway. I don't want to read my books right now--or rather, I want to read books, but not the ones I have. So instead I'm watching The West Wing. Gaza and Memorial Day, because I have the fifth season here and I love those episodes. Especially Josh. I have a big thing for guys who do major things for the ones they love. Like rushing to Germany despite the international crisis and being supposed to advise the president on it. Or like burning up a sun just to say goodbye. *g*

Also like yelling about how you want to kill everyone who had a hand in it, despite being a total pacifist who feels faint at the sight of blood. Or being proud of Rose for joining Torchwood and trying to find a way to blast through universes and have no problems with her gun, despite being very unhappy with everyone else who does these things.

Ah, I have such a weakness for relationships like these. :D

So, speaking of the kind of relationship I love, and also the fact that I am bored with my books--anyone have any recommendations? Books especially, but also shows and movies and so on.

Also, fic writing meme:

If you could force me to write anything, what would it be?

Please answer--I'm really quite interested. :D

Felt sicker today. Could not bring myself to go to work today. I am feeling better now, but dunno how long that will last. [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals and I had a conversation where I got her to write about bears and she got me to write more crackfic in the With a Little Help from My Friends-verse (a universe which desperately needs a good name, btw), except which will definitely end up more cracky than the first fic. I'm not entirely sure how this happened. XD

Also, because apparently I haven't had enough of politics and campaigns yet, I'm watching The West Wing. Right now I'm watching 2162 Votes, and then I'm going to go through season seven. I'm going to try and finish it before election day.

Months ago, I was so amused at how closely this current campaign was paralleling the one in season seven of West Wing. Non-white Democrat vs moderate Republican? Except then John McCain showed how much of a sleazeball he really is, whereas I could have been more than all right with Arnold Vinick as a president. *sigh*

Also, I love Donna Moss. Why do I have no Donna icons?

So it's been awhile since I've posted. Er, quite a while. It's not that there's not anything going on; rather, I just haven't had any interest in posting about it. But since book seven's almost here, I figured I'd post a few things about that.

First of all, regarding spoilers--spoil me, don't spoil me, I don't care. I read the scanned epilogue a few days ago, but apparently now the entire book is being scanned and people are reading that, which I certainly am not. I do periodically seek out spoilers, but I prefer them to be single events rather than the entire bloody book. There are only a few more days before I can buy it, and I'd really prefer to read an actual book where I don't have to strain my eyes, so I don't mind waiting.

I don't know if the leaked book is real or not. On one hand, if it's real, I'm surprised no one official has cracked down on it yet. On the other hand, it's not like people don't illegally download episodes and music, so I wouldn't be that surprised if it was real and just keeps slipping through.

As for spoilers after the book is officially out, I'll put them under a cut with warnings and no indications of what the spoiler actually is. I may not care about getting spoiled, but I know other people do.

In other HP-related news, I haven't seen Order of the Phoenix, and I don't intend to. I'm even sort of iffy on rereading the book--I haven't read it since it came out, but I've reread the first four, and I might reread HBP, so not sure if I should leave it out or not.

I have started reading HP fanfic again. Mostly the ones on my favorites list at ff.net, along with a couple new epics, but I started looking through my R/S reclist yesterday, and now I'm debating asking for links for fics newer than November 2005, since that was when it was last updated. I'll probably wait and see if my interest remains after I finish Deathly Hallows.

*sigh* There's things going on in RL, but I don't feel like talking about them now. In other fandomy news, I'm in the middle of a West Wing fic, with a few more ideas for that fandom, and a Supernatural fic, intended to be for [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's birthday, but I guess I'm too late for that. Happy belated birthday anyway, [livejournal.com profile] musesfool, and I'll see if I can finish it any time soon.

Burnt by the Sun is continuing to be stubborn. I wish it could just be finished already.
