Finally home. Well, I got home on Thursday night after what was probably the worst of my drives to and from school. It rained throughout Washington and Oregon, and then the sun set not long after I got into California, so I had to do the worst road in the dark. Two-lane highway in the middle of a forest with snow on the side of the road in the dark and signs warning for ice all over--gah. There was thankfully no ice, but that was about the only positive.

But when I got home there were Christmas cards waiting for me--thank you, [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals, [livejournal.com profile] imadra_blue, and [livejournal.com profile] fiery_twilight!

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is...started. *sigh* I know what I'm doing with it; it's just the words that are being stubborn. But I'm just going to power through tomorrow, and then it'll be nice to have that done. It's been a long time since I've written fic--not since [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09.

There's a New Years Resolution, then, though I don't normally go in for them. Still, next year I really hope to write more fic.

Though tonight when I was trying to write [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I heard the West Wing title music. Apparently my parents have been watching S1, so I went out and watched a couple episodes with them. S1 is definitely what got me hooked on the show, but it's not my favorite season--actually, I'm not sure I have one. Mostly what I love are various episodes rather than seasons. But anyway, my mom watched the show as it was airing (which was ten years ago now! wow), but she didn't remember very much so she kept asking me what happened later. We also discussed the politics in the show, because you know, I find I appreciate the show even more with every politics class I take.

Okay. Time to shut up here and work more on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.
rynne: (can't be too fond of books)
Today I finished my last couple of regular assignments. From here on, all I have left are final tests and final papers. This makes things much easier--or at least, it will once I think of topics for my final papers. XD

I find myself...surprisingly free of obligations at the moment. I think the only outstanding obligation I have right now is [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, and I've got a month to finish that. Still, I think I'm gonna try and do it soon just to have it done, and then I might actually try to finish up some of my WsIP. (Hah! We'll see how that goes. XD)

In the meantime, I am going to READ BOOKS FOR FUN!

Happy New Year. I am sick. What an auspicious start. XD

Last night I was also sick, but I still went out with a friend, and managed to have a good time. Also I met someone I haven't seen in eight years who actually recognized me and remembered my name. I would not have looked at her and remembered her without prompting, and it's sorta funny that I just randomly meet someone I knew in middle school in a bar on New Year's. Life, how odd you are.

Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] yuletide authors were revealed. I wrote:

Holding onto Hope (FAKE, Diana/Berkeley UST). It's funny--I was a bit at a loss with this story because I didn't feel I had a hold on the characters, and then many of the comments I got were compliments on characterization. Um, yay for validation? XD My recipient liked it, so that makes me happy.

Also, FAKE het. For the past few years I've been writing so much het. I think the only slash I've written in the past two years is a few Kingdom Hearts ficlets and two Remix pinch hits. I need to write more slash. Hah, maybe I should make that a resolution. :p

And I need to get off the computer. I think the bright lights are making my headache worse. I want to do the year in fic review meme, but I think that's going to have to wait until I'm not sick anymore.

The hotel has free internet, so I am here! I don't think I should trying getting the new Doctor Who Christmas special, so that will still have to wait until I get back home, but I did manage to read and comment on my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide present.

Which was Think When the Bells do Chime, and omg it's Garth Nix's Abhorsen series and Nick/Lirael and adventure with the Dead! It was sweet and lovely and ADVENTURE WITH THE DEAD! :D ♥

For more tangible presents, I got DW S4 yay. Also a new iPod and a new phone, both of which I needed because my old ones were starting to not work so well anymore. :p Also, when my mom saw me reading Dorothy Sayers a few months ago, she said she was going to get me a book by someone who wrote similar books to Sayers, so she did, and I read it, and now I have a new author to devour. :D

I also had an absolutely lovely Christmas. Christmas Eve was spent with the extended family (second and third cousins), but today was just the cousins--my mom's brother and sister and their kids. I love my cousins. My oldest cousin works in a Napa Valley winery and my only male cousin is becoming something of a beer connoisieur so there was some very good beer and wine there too. :p

Tomorrow I'm going to the grandparents', and then the day after I'm coming home and I'm going to watch the DW Christmas special, and I think my friends and I are going to take Twin out. Then on the 30th friends and I are going down to Las Vegas, and we're going to spend New Year's in Vegas, and that will probably be...epic. XD

(Except then they want us to camp in Zion National Park for a night. In the beginning of January. CAMPING. IN JANUARY. WHEN IT'S ALREADY SNOWED IN VEGAS. Please tell me I am not the only one who thinks this is a bit crazy? *sigh* I will go, but I've never been much of a camping person. I hope it's still fun.)

Okay, my signal has been going in and out, so I'm going to get going.

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates, and happy holidays to all!

I am probably not going to be able to write any stocking stuffers for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year. I didn't get to pinch hit because I am slow at claiming them, and I'm leaving early tomorrow afternoon. So my only time to write stocking stuffers would be the rest of tonight and tomorrow morning, and for tonight at least I keep getting a busy server message. This makes me sad. I really enjoyed writing my stocking stuffers last year.

I know tomorrow's Christmas Eve, but it feels like tonight is. But then, my family always opens presents on Christmas Eve anyway, and we're doing it tomorrow morning so we can do it at home and not in a hotel. I asked for DW S4, so finally I will have that! XD

I'm not expecting to have internet access when I'm gone, though it's possible. Still, not likely. But I will be bringing my computer, so I can write, and beta, and watch Life on Mars. :p

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide is finished and uploaded. Whoo! (I was the 667th person to upload. Aww! So close to 666. XD)

I've also got most of my Christmas shopping done, and I know what I'm getting the rest, even if I haven't done it yet.

School is over, and except for the Christmas presents, I'm done with things with deadlines for awhile! *flops down* There's still stuff I have to do, but without deadlines, so that makes it easier.

Now I'm going to relax and play video games for awhile and tomorrow I will do some betaing and writing. :)

So I basically just spent an hour and a half writing a post in [livejournal.com profile] theemptywriter on why I don't want Moffat's views in television. With this thing, on one hand, I feel like I should say that I welcome debate, and of course people are welcome to post their thoughts, but...you're not going to change my mind on this issue. You're just not.

I've been busier this break than I anticipated. I spent a lot of time with my friends here, which of course was wonderful and I don't regret that, but it left me a lot less time to get fandomy things done than I'd hoped. I'm going back to school tomorrow morning, and once I get there, I'm going to have to get moving on some things.

I am reviewing my source for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, though. I've got an idea for the fic, but it's been a long time since I finished the source, so I definitely need the refresher, and I'll be bringing the important stuff back with me.

Here's a little meme, most recently seen on [livejournal.com profile] ariastar's journal, though I've seen it elsewhere as well.

Bit of personal rambling )

Now back to reviewing my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide source before packing and going to bed.
