In Munich! Am very tired though, because woke up at 5:30 this morning after an overnight train ride and then [livejournal.com profile] heart_of_man and I decided it would be a good idea to go on a three-hour walking tour this afternoon. XD Bedtime soon, but I'm taking advantage of the internet while I have it!

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals!

*snoozes*
rynne: (four chillin')
Spent yesterday in Southampton with [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals. There really wasn't all that much to do besides have milkshakes, look at bits of old wall, and sprawl on grass. I still had a good time, though.

Getting home was an adventure. I wanted sticky toffee pudding so I missed the last through train from Southampton to London, but this wasn't Crewe, so I could still get to London even when leaving at 9pm. I just had to take a ten-minute train to Eastleigh, take a rail-replacement bus for over an hour from Eastleigh to Basingstoke because there was work on the lines, then take a train from Basingstoke to London. I'd been worried that I'd get in so late that I'd miss the last tube and would have to take the Night Bus and then a cab home. But I caught the second-to-last tube, and still made the rail-replacement bus (because the tube line that goes closest to my house was down for engineering work) to my closest tube stop, and then just walked home from there. I was very pleased about not having to take a cab and spend more money!

I did get in past 1am, though, and this after waking up before 6 that morning, so I was pretty zonked. By the time I managed to go to bed, I'd been awake for nearly twenty hours, which is a lot for me. But I got home fine, so I'm happy.

Last week one of my teachers went to Oregon for a conference on the program, and thanks to the ash cloud, he's not back yet, so his class is canceled today. This is good, because it gives me more time to do research on this paper I've got due on Wednesday and haven't had time to write or research yet. I do hope that flights to and from Britain open up very soon, though, because I really want to go to Norway in a couple weeks.

This weekend is my weekend for meeting internet people. Yesterday I met [livejournal.com profile] magic_at_mungos and we went for an early dinner at a place in Brixton, which is the furthest south of the river I have been thus far. :p We sat in the restaurant chatting about random things from fandom to politics to various other things for a couple hours, and then when other people needed our table, we went to a pub and talked some more. Very lovely evening.

Then today [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals came to London. (Don't worry, [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar, she talked about you constantly. I felt rather like Martha.) We met at Earl's Court so that I could get some pictures with the TARDIS there, and then we went to the Doctor Who shop, where I bought some TARDIS socks, a Companionpalooza poster, and an issue of Doctor Who Magazine.

We went for lunch at a pub by the Globe, where [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals, who had got an assemble-it-yourself Tiny!Master, applied Vaseline to the Master's ass to make it easier to get something in, but alas! it was still too big to fit properly. She ended up having to use a pen to widen the hole first.

(Is that enough innuendo for you, Opal? XD)

We stopped by Trafalgar Square where there was some sort of Dutch celebration going on, but nothing particularly interesting so we didn't stay. We ended up dozing for about two hours in St. James's Park, and also chatting about bears, how Opal needs to WRITE MOAR FIC, and how all the pigeons in the park should stay away or Opal was going to kill them.

Tomorrow, thanks to screwy tube engineering work and also being on the other side of the city, I need to get up before 7 to make my train to Southampton, which Opal assures me is very boring. We'll see.

So today I finished and revised my paper before I expected, leaving me more time. I decided to watch due South.

[livejournal.com profile] shinyopals, have you SEEN this show? If not, YOU NEED TO WATCH IT.

A few very minor spoilers from the first few episodes, not really plot-related )
rynne: (exuberance is beauty)
Today's been a pretty good day. I didn't have to do anything in class besides listen, I'm now offically a Politics and Government minor, there was a gathering of the English department where I got to glee with my professors about the classes I'm taking next semester, I had pizza for dinner, and then I found old Rainbow Brite episodes. Rainbow Brite! I loved that so much when I was a kid. XD

Also, [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals and I are apparently going to cowrite something in her Fourteen-verse. I'm excited! I've never cowritten anything before, and I've always wanted to.

I'm completely updated on Bones now, so I suppose I'll just have to keep watching along with everyone else now. Next up in my Netflix queue is due South, and since [livejournal.com profile] ariastar has been raving about it recently, I'm looking forward to that.

I think right now, though, I'm going to go watch more Rainbow Brite. Hello, my childhood. :D
rynne: (facepalm Mulan)
[livejournal.com profile] shinyopals is a cruel, cruel person. I was silly enough to ask her to give me names for the cliff, shag, marry meme, and she gave me GEORGE W. BUSH, STEVEN MOFFAT, AND DAVROS.

i. I feel like doing Roman numerals today.

ii. I just got finished watching a movie and doing a write up of it for a class. It wasn't even a very interesting movie! Well, the content was interesting, but the performance was boring. Eh.

iii. Last week the school had a career fair, and I went because, well, not too long before I'm done with school. I talked to this guy from Grassroots Campaigns, which does things for groups such as Planned Parenthood, the DNC, the ACLU, Amnesty International, and so on. I expressed interest. Then today they were in the student union building again and I talked to them and they said they were doing interest meetings for summer internships today! With interviews! And I should come!

I agreed, because I need a summer internship. But then it was just omg unexpected interview! And I don't even have a resume!

So I put together a resume. And I got dressed up in interview clothes, and brought my resume with me to the interest meeting. No one else who showed up was in interview clothes, or had a resume. I hope that bodes well for me.

I think the interview went pretty well. My resume centered on my political experience and volunteer work, which is basically what this organization is about. I think I came across fairly well.

And the guy said they're going to let me know within forty-eight hours! Eep. Much sooner than I was expecting. I'm going to be nervous until then.

This is actually not the internship I want the most--I still haven't done applications for editing positions, which is what I really want. But if I do get this, it will be a big relief that I at least have something, even if I can't get my first choices.

iv. I FINISHED FIC TODAY. More than that, I finished another fic in the With a Little Help from My Friends universe, so now I officially have an actual series going. I also have a better name for the universe itself, but I don't want to reveal it yet. :p

But the fics in this series seem to just grow. Like, the first fic I was thinking would be about 3000 words when I wrote it, and I ended up with 10,000. This new fic I was thinking would be 2000, and it ended up at 5000. I'm not complaining since I'm pretty happy with the pacing as it turned out, but wow, quite the discrepancy between my expectations and the reality. :p

v. I did the association meme, and [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals gave me these five things:

ARGH! NOT GRAMMAR! )

University stuff )

Doctor/Rose cuteness )

Harry Potter )

The X-Files )
rynne: (good grammar yay!)
So over the past six months or so, I've betad [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals's DW fic and blithely pointed out every time she had the Doctor say "There's [something plural]", on the theory that the Doctor would be correct, dammit! He's even canonically corrected someone else's spoken grammar!

Now she tells me that in New Earth, he said "There is ten million people".

You have failed me, Doctor! Now I have to curl into a ball somewhere and mourn.
rynne: (college)
So today [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals posted a brilliant essay on why she doesn't like Steven Moffat. It's very comprehensive and something I agree with completely. Honestly, pretty much all Moffat has are some funny jokes and great one-liners--everything else falls apart with greater analysis.

In school news, I register for spring on Monday, and I was just looking at course offerings because registration started yesterday and I wanted to make sure the classes I picked were still open. They're all still open, but the time of one of them was changed, so now it conflicts with another one. Gah! Now I need to figure out my schedule again. *sigh*
