Wow. I finally updated my website, for the first time in over two years. Two years! What has been added is...all six of the fics I wrote in the two years since I last updated. I think I only wrote one fic last year, which is a new low, and that was for Remix. I didn't even do Yuletide.

Well, at least my tally for this year will be better than last year, though that's not saying much. I've already posted a fic this year, and I've got Remix (which I need to get started on soon--I've got my idea and I know exactly what I'm doing with it, so now I just need to sit down and write), and I've got more Star Trek fics in my head. I just need to write them, and it definitely needs to be before September, because somehow I don't think I'll have time once I start law school. :p

Work has been going well. I've only been there a week, but I think I'm already impressing my supervisors. Let's hope things keep going well.

All right, am tired and also betaing, so another quick post today.

For almost three years I've had my website, hosted by someone else and using html that another person created for me. I'm very grateful to both of these people, but my host said that due to real life she doesn't want her name associated with fandom, and I can't argue with that.

So now I've actually got my own site: www.thebackgroundhum.com

Don't bother to check it out yet though, since I haven't switched anything over from my first site. I will do that soonish, but when I'm doing that, I'd also like to change things. I've had that style for three years, and I'd like to change it a bit.

But I don't know more than basic html, and I want to. I want to be able to do this site myself. So I guess I'm asking for recommendations of good websites that teach a bit more complicated html. Something like what I've got right now, but so that I can make my own changes without worrying I'm getting rid of something I really need. :p Also, something intelligible to someone who doesn't understand computer programming that well.

Happy Valentine's Day! Even though there's not even twenty minutes left of it by my clock. :p

I finally got around to updating my website, for the first time since...last April, apparently. *winces* Lots of coding, gah. But up there now are my three [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fics, that West Wing fic I posted back in August, and three Doctor Who one-shots I wrote just this week.

Speaking of those Doctor Who fics...I haven't posted them here (they're on [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips) though I'm not entirely sure why, but eh. Anyway, I've already written three in one week, so there's totally bound to be more, and while I don't usually get ficlets/short one-shots betad, I'm definitely anticipating a few longer fics, and it'd be nice to have a beta lined up. So...anyone willing to be my Doctor Who beta? Note that I like Doctor/Rose, so if that's not your cup of tea, maybe don't volunteer.

Now that I've started writing fics again, I am reminded that it's been a long time since I last updated my website. In fact, I don't think I have since I got this computer. Then again, I'm not quite sure how to do it on a Mac; on my old PC, I used Notepad for writing plain html documents (without all the extra garbage MS Word throws in), and Windows XP's built-in FTP server to upload things.

But now I don't have Notepad and I don't have an FTP program. Anyone know where I can get free, workable things for a Mac, that someone technologically ignorant could understand?
rynne: (facepalm Mulan)
Have finally, finally updated my website. Everything over 500 words that I've posted since April should now be up there, so, um, a bunch of new stuff.

Had to use my old computer to do it, though, since there are several Mac-Windows differences that I'm not sure about. Like all my pages being hand-coded in Notepad, except I don't think Mac OS X has Notepad, and I'm not sure what the equivalent is. Or, basically, what I can use to code my website. Also, need to find an FTP program. Tried Fugu, which a couple people recommended awhile ago, except it requires information for log-on that I don't know. Also tried a few programs I found off the downloads page of the Apple website, but they didn't work.

I really need to figure out how to update my website using a Mac. Keeping my old computer around just for that would be pretty damn inconvenient.
rynne: (college)
I totally need to stop wanting to write epic poetry about my favorite characters' lives.

First day of classes was yesterday, but I only had one class yesterday, and it was just Japanese, where I already knew the teacher and most of the kids, so I'm not sure it counts. Had all of my new classes today, anyway.

Let it be said that I hate 9:00am classes. Why can't I just be nocturnal, dammit? I like staying up all night and going to bed at five in the morning. But oh well, I think I'm going to really like the class, so at least that's something.

The teacher for my 10:00am class, however, was twenty minutes late. Twenty minutes late to the first class of the semester. When she did show up, she spent ten minutes talking about a play-watching club on campus...and this is only a fifty minute class! Then, when she finally did get to the topic of the class (which is sorta about the Renaissance...it's complicated), she kept saying all these things about the Renaissance and laughing, but they were just...facts, and not funny. Er.

I think I'm going to love my political theory class, though. :D

I updated my website as well, and tonight I think you'll get two fics, since both of my betas got things back to me today!

Note to self: reply to comments. SOON.
rynne: (love life)
Happy New Year, everyone! :)

And now I can finally mention my [livejournal.com profile] shackinup_sesa fic!

I wrote Fall So Softly, for [livejournal.com profile] kaydeefalls. Though if anyone who knows my writing style read it, they probably could have figured it out. :p

I also updated my site with that fic, the Princess Bride fic, and the Luke&Leia fic. I also added dates (well, month and year at least) beneath all the fics, so that people know when it was written and maybe be a bit more lenient on my older fics. *g*

Speaking of the site, I want to set up some sort of feedback thingy. I know how to do a text form in html, but that's not what I want to do, since you can't use web-based email with one. I could just link to the reply feature on LJ in the fics, but not all of the fics I put up on there I've got posted on LJ. I don't want to do a mailto link, as I'm sure that will give me more spam than anything else. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

I've finally updated my tags with all the fic/drabbles I've posted on LJ. So if anyone cares to go searching through that, the tags are updated. :)

Also, tomorrow I'm going with my family to our house in Santa Cruz. I'll be there until Thursday, and while I will have internet access, it'll be dial-up, so while I will be around, it won't be as much as usual.

I don't normally go in for new years' resolutions, since I tend to forget them. But there is one I want to make and that I hope people will pester me to keep:

I resolve that I will write something original this year. It doesn't matter if it's a one-page story or a novel, but I will write something original.

Good night, and happy New Year! :D Here's hoping it will be better than 2005.
rynne: (empty swing)
Psychology final = OWNED! One of the easiest tests I've ever taken. But then, that class was just generally really easy...

Website updated again. More of my HP fic added, though later I'm going to have to figure out why there's a bunch of space in between some things on the HP fic index page and not others, considering the code is pretty much the same.

Remember that dialogue formatting tutorial I posted a couple weeks ago? It's now been posted as an article at TheForce.Net's Fanfic Archive (though with the HP examples changed to SW, of course, since it's a SW site). This makes me happy. :)

My Computer Science final is tomorrow. Gajsdkgaljkjldg. I'm going to be so glad to get it over with, but I'm really not looking forward to it...I'm so bad at that class.

Must go finish my final paper for my seminar now. Ta!
rynne: (rain on me)
So I totally finished the Comp Sci paper this morning at five. Definitely not one of my better papers, but considering it's for a math class, that probably doesn't matter.

I updated my website! It's got a name now--I decided on "The Background Hum"--and a v. cool layout that [livejournal.com profile] lea_ndra made for me. *smooches Lea* Thanks, hun.

Also put up on the website are some SW 100-word drabbles (fifty of them, so far, all interlinking). Haven't posted them anywhere but the Jedi Council forums until now, so I doubt any of you have read them, but every single one of them takes place in the EU, so you probably wouldn't want to read them if you haven't read the books and/or don't like Luke/Mara Jade. :p

I really need to start my [livejournal.com profile] shackinup_sesa fic, since that's so far the only thing I need to write that has an actual due date--and one that's just over two weeks away, at that. I can write it, and I want to write it, but somehow I keep staring at a mostly-blank document and then going off to read fanfic. Rargh.

Anyway, two questions:

First, does The Boondock Saints have a soundtrack? Because if it does, I'm totally getting my parents to give it to me for Christmas.

Second, does anyone know how to use MS Pain(t) to resize pictures? Me = technologically pathetic, so I've got no idea. I also don't have any better program currently than MS Pain(t) to work with.

site stuff

rynne: (crayons)
So I've put a bunch of my HP fic up on my new site. Every page is a different color, though once I find a background and maybe figure out css, I'll change things to something more uniform.

Anyway, because I really need a name for my site and I am helpless without my lovely flist...

[Poll #625767]

Some ideas for names I got from my icons.

Last Friday of classes for the semester. Wow.

I sent in a check to pay my student health insurance today. o.O I totally felt like a grown-up at the time, except I don't anymore. :p

Snow is almost gone. Hurrah! There was so much of it...though it was funny to watch the girl on my floor from Hawaii...

Anyway, someone borrowed my Star Wars original trilogy DVDs for a marathon in the dorm next door, so I'm going to go watch with them.

eta: Ahaha. Only realized this with [livejournal.com profile] lea_ndra's comment, but for all the people who voted "poisoned with rainbows"...it's not just because I've got all different colored pages, is it? 'Cause I'm going to eventually change that, like I mentioned earlier. It's just a temporary thing 'cause I didn't want boring white while I figured something else out. So if you're going to vote that, vote it because you like it and not because of the color scheme. :p
rynne: (exuberance is beauty)
Because [livejournal.com profile] eruantale is the coolest and is loaning me space on her server, I've got a WEBSITE now! :D:D:D

*is excited*

Find it at http://rynne.decemberproject.net

Of course, it's only the barest bones of a website so far. There's no sort of layout or background yet, and the only things actually up on it are a bunch of links and my SW fics and my R/S reclist. HP fics and stuff for the other categories will be coming later (HP fics especially might take awhile, as there's so many of them), and I will put up a layout and background once I figure out how. (And once I find good things to be backgrounds. I know for my R/S reclist I'm eventually going to try and figure out how to put the picture I commissioned [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121 to do awhile back as a banner, maybe, but I've got no idea for any of the other pages, especially since I still want the pages to be readable.)

Anyway, does anyone know of any good html tutorial sites? [livejournal.com profile] eruantale already pointed me towards htmlprimer.com, but I'm going to want to do more than just what's on there.

Also, if anyone could think of a good title for the site, that would be great. All I've got right now is "Rynne's Homepage", and while there's nothing wrong with that, it is a bit...boring. :p

Whee! Website! :D
