Because [livejournal.com profile] eruantale is the coolest and is loaning me space on her server, I've got a WEBSITE now! :D:D:D

*is excited*

Find it at http://rynne.decemberproject.net

Of course, it's only the barest bones of a website so far. There's no sort of layout or background yet, and the only things actually up on it are a bunch of links and my SW fics and my R/S reclist. HP fics and stuff for the other categories will be coming later (HP fics especially might take awhile, as there's so many of them), and I will put up a layout and background once I figure out how. (And once I find good things to be backgrounds. I know for my R/S reclist I'm eventually going to try and figure out how to put the picture I commissioned [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121 to do awhile back as a banner, maybe, but I've got no idea for any of the other pages, especially since I still want the pages to be readable.)

Anyway, does anyone know of any good html tutorial sites? [livejournal.com profile] eruantale already pointed me towards htmlprimer.com, but I'm going to want to do more than just what's on there.

Also, if anyone could think of a good title for the site, that would be great. All I've got right now is "Rynne's Homepage", and while there's nothing wrong with that, it is a bit...boring. :p

Whee! Website! :D

*is off to fiddle with is some more*

Everything you might want to know is probably at w3.org (http://www.w3.org). If you search for html there are a few introductory and tutorial type pages, some of that might be useful?

Congrats on the site :)

I don't have a link to a html tutorial - I usually do my layout with photoshop or some editor beforehand.

For example... I define tables beforehand in an editor like... Dreamweaver, I make a template. This template I use as a base.

If you have much text and many fics, but don't want to miss a cool grafik or more - use frames.

And here are some nifty links, snatched from a friend recently.

need a cool colour scheme, but are kind of blank?
Try colorblender. It helps you pick out colours, by showing you which colours fit. And it's fun.

I hate making buttons - and most of the time they just don't look right. But if you absolutely want buttons, here's an online Buttonmaker. You can choose any colours you like, same goes for text. Just play around with it for a bit.

Last but not least, you should get WS-FTP LE, a programm to upload your files to your space - it's easy to use and the light-version is free.

For the bases of HTML, the clearest tutorial I found it this one. Be careful though, it doesn't introduce style sheets, that allow you to define the style and layout for the whole site instead of repeating it in the code of each page.

So before you build your site, be sure to have a look at style sheets tutorials, such as the ones in W3 or W3schools, here and here.

For interactive pages such as polls, scrolling menus, guestbooks and so on, you might need some javascript knowledge. There's an introduction in the Maricopa tutorial, and also something more advanced (but not really clear at W3schools here. I think I remember finding other, better ones, but I can't find the link anymore.

And now there's all this fun with PHP and other programming codes able to generate HTML. For this, I'm still learning! And I don't think it's necessary to know it to build a personal page.

My absolute bible for everything HTML is (and i can't believe someone hasn't already pointed it out to you) htmlgoodies.com. You'll find everything you could possibly need and you'll laugh your ass off at the guy's comments. It's the only site I ever go to. :D

Personally, I heart Lissa Explains. It was designed for kids so it's really easy to understand but it contains a lot of useful and fun information.

Hee, thanks. :D It was useful stuff! Certainly more understandable than some of the other sites I've looked at. :p
