Public, as I want opinions, and not just from people on my flist.

So. I was just rereading a few fics, namely [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose's Midnight Conversation #6, [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's Alive, [livejournal.com profile] lupercali's Seven Things That Didn't Happen At Hogwarts On Valentine's Day, Or Maybe They Did and a myriad of other fics, and I was thinking, and I noticed something that they all have in common.

They all have Sirius more in love with Remus than Remus is with Sirius.

Like in "Alive", Sam writes, "Remus had never felt so entirely tied up in a single person, the way Sirius had been. He had loved Sirius, of course he had loved Sirius, but his happiness and his life had not been dependent on Sirius loving him."

MC#6 is pretty much about how Sirius loves Remus more than Remus loves him (at that time).

Seventh year of "Seven Things..." also seems to be pretty much that, as is Pru's Levityverse.

I've also gotten that same impression from a few of [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's fics.

Four of the most highly-respected authors (at least according to me) in the R/S subfandom have the same sort of theme on how the R/S relationship works. And, I was just wondering why. Is it because Sirius is passionate and Remus is controlled? Something along those lines?

All opinions are very much appreciated. Especially if they turn into debates :).

...you said it, I didn't. ;)

Honestly? That was the first thing that popped into my head, but I didn't say it for fear of having said head bit off.

I don't fear head-biting. ^__^

Honestly, I can't speak for the other authors [livejournal.com profile] rynne mentioned, but I get the impression that's the case. It's certainly true for me. I love Sirius. He's one of my favorite characters. Writing about him is so much fun. But Remus has my heart. I like to think canon supports my interpretation of their relationship, but of course my leanings shade my writing.

Haha, you're much braver than I am. ;) And quite honest too, hee hee.

Seriously, I do know some people get very twitchy over the idea that their personal preference toward one character over another affects the way they write interactions between the two. I don't know any of the people named here, so I didn't know if y'all would feel that way, and as I didn't want to step on any toes, I said nothing. But yes that was the very first thing that popped into my head because, while I'm not as familiar with R/S authors (or... any fanfic authors really) as I could be, but I have read at least one or two works from everyone in question and the Remus love was, indeed, evident.

(Less so with yours, though. Actually, I really couldn't tell who you preferred.)

Huh. I guess that's a good thing. :) I'm not trying to be impartial or anything. I wouldn't write about either character this much if I didn't love both of them. I think I actually prefer writing from Sirius' POV. His voice is a little more vibrant (to me) and...yeah...I rather enjoy idolising Remus through his eyes.

Haha, I'm the absolute opposite; I prefer writing from Remus' POV, as it lets me go into poetry and graceful rhythms and metaphors, and I do enjoy playing with his tendency to avoid subjects, even to himself (very unreliable narrator; Sirius is so open that I find it difficult to play POV games)... but I don't actually like Remus as much as I do Sirius. So I almost always write from his POV, and he is my top choice to roleplay.

I do try to be impartial though, to the degree that I can. It is, perhaps, easier for me because I love the relationship and the story of the relationship a million times more than I love either of them, and even Sirius (who is my favorite character) I didn't love enough to have been upset by OotP.

Wow. That made no sense. I mean REMUS is my top choice to roleplay and I almost always write my fic from his POV, despite my greater Sirius affection.
