Good news!
May. 28th, 2004 09:52 pmNote to self: refrain from being unnecessarily dramatic and getting people worried. Because I am fine. Yes, I am. I am nervous, but I am fine.
Okay, moving on to the big important thing I wanted to post (not what I talked about yesterday, but something I found out like twenty minutes ago).
Most, if not all, of you know about or are part of the Harry Potter for Grownups Yahoo Group, right? In case you didn't, it's one of the biggest and possibly the most well-known of the Harry Potter discussion groups on Yahoo, and very high-volume (several thousand posts each month and over 11,000 members). And about a week and a half ago, they posted on the list asking for people to apply for the position of List Elf, which is their equivalent of moderator (and one of their duties being to welcome newbies to the list, which is exactly what I do as eMentor!).
So I, having decided that I don't have enough on my plate by just being a coder and an eMentor (:p), decided to send in my own application, because HPfGU is rather prestigious (like FA, which I adore :D), and I'd be as honored to be a part of their staff as I am to be part of FA's staff. And especially now that it's about summer, I figured I would have some time to commit to this as well.
I didn't tell you all when I applied, because, if I'd been rejected, I didn't want to post about it, and I figured that if I didn't tell people, then it'd be easier not to get my hopes up.
Well, as can be deduced by me posting about this now, I've got my acceptance email to be a HPfGU List Elf, and will be joining the admin team whenever they issue me my invitation.
I will, of course, not be neglecting my duties at FA, because it's first in my heart and I've been there longer, and I love being part of the staff there. But I am also immensely proud to have been selected as a HPfGU List Elf, and can't wait to get started. :)

Date: 2004-05-28 10:51 pm (UTC)^^; Am also thinking of joining the second wave of the Classic Canon challenge. You've read The Count of Monte Cristo, haven't you? (Or seen the movie, maybe? Though the movie's quite different...) Sirius would make the most brilliant Edmond Dantes (and with Remus as Haydee! :D), and I know how I can fit in all these people...but God it would be such a big project!

Date: 2004-05-28 11:06 pm (UTC)I was actually thinking of doing something for that challenge, too. I was thinking of doing "The Lady of Shalott" with Luna as the Lady, and Harry was Lancelot. Or something. I love the poem, and there's something Luna-like about the imagery. Plus there's the mirror metaphor. But I don't know how to plot it. And I have so many other projects!

Date: 2004-05-28 10:58 pm (UTC)But on the other hand, I've been logging volunteer hours in my community (mostly connected with the local library) since I was fourteen. I think I work better and harder when it's completely my choice to be doing so...

Date: 2004-05-29 09:32 pm (UTC)The group is incredibly interesting with its vast array of discussions, but I have no idea how I'll be able to digest the massive volumes of email each day.
But never mind all that. *hugs* Congratulations on becoming a List Elf. I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job. ^_^
Oh yes, one question if you don't mind: is there a reason why it's called "for Grownups" or is it just more intellectual than most groups I've wandered into thus far?

Date: 2004-05-29 09:38 pm (UTC)I think it's "for Grownups" because they want "grownup" discussion (ie rational and without childish name-calling of people who disagree with you, etc.). People thirteen and older are still allowed to register, but I believe it reflects on that they want us to act like responsible adults.
