You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?
Being stuck inside Fahrenheit 451 would absolutely kill me, but...I don't suppose I could be the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy? I could memorize it! Guy What's-his-face, the main character, is the Bible, isn't he, and that's bigger...
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who?
*snorts* Noooooooo, I've never had a crush on a fictional character. *rolls eyes* To keep this a (relatively) short list, I'll keep it to books. So...Calvin O'Keefe, Vanyel Ashkevron, Will Parry, Remus Lupin, Harry Potter, Faramir, Taran, George Cooper, F'lar, Frederick Garland and...probably more. :p
The last book you bought is:
American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Brilliant book, btw.
The last book you read:
The Amber Spyglass (for the umpteenth time) by Philip Pullman.
What are you currently reading?
Nothing yet. I haven't decided what book to bring to school tomorrow, as I finished the one I brought today.
Five books you would take to a deserted island:
Don't make me choose only five--I'd never be able to do it. Seriously, never.
And from the same people...
1. Choosefive ten of your all time favorite books.
2. Take the first sentence of the first chapter and make a list in your journal.
3. Don't reveal the author or the title of the book.
4. Now everyone try and guess.
1. Autumn had come too swiftly. - The Black Cauldron, by Lloyd Alexander -
thistlerose
2. "I've watched through his eyes, listened through his ears, and I tell you, he's the one. ..." - Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card -
allisonblair and
enderxenocide
3. Linderwall was a large kingdom, just east of the Mountains of Morning, where philosophers were highly respected and the number five was fashionable. - Dealing with Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede -
blue_miwako
4. This is where the dragons went. - Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett -
gehayi and
polaris_starz and
manynames and
drakyndra
5. This is a story about something that happened long ago when your grandfather was a child. - The Magician's Nephew, by C.S. Lewis -
thistlerose
6. The copper-haired rider looked at the black sky and swore. - In the Hands of the Goddess, by Tamora Pierce -
ariastar
7. There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. - Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte -
thistlerose
8. The crudely built cart lurched and bounced over the rough coralite terrain, its iron wheels hitting every bump and pit in what passed for a road.
9. She scowled at her glass of orange juice. - The Blue Sword, by Robin McKinley -
underlucius
10. On a cold, fretful afternoon in early October, 1872, a hansom cab drew up outside the offices of Lockhart and Selby, Shipping Agents, in the financial heart of London, and a young girl got out and paid the driver. - The Ruby in the Smoke, by Philip Pullman -

Date: 2005-04-06 10:33 pm (UTC)And eee, yes! I think it's rather a pity that His Dark Materials gets all the attention and the Sally Lockhart books get far less. They're delightful too.

Date: 2005-04-06 10:38 pm (UTC)And yes. Actually, all those books broke my heart at one time or another, but Shadow in the North especially.

Date: 2005-04-07 02:34 pm (UTC)I discovered them a couple of years ago and have been completely in love with Fred ever since. The Shadow in the North killed me. I recall waking up the next morning, and feeling all happy until I remembered.
I'm always disappointed that so few people have read them, so if I'm being incredibly rude here, ignore me. LJ etiquette is hard!

Date: 2005-04-08 12:54 pm (UTC)I read The Tin Princess too, and I liked it, although it was really different from the Trilogy. I think these books were all really excellent, and I wish they didn't have to stay in the "shadow" of the "His Dark Materials" books.

Date: 2005-04-07 06:32 pm (UTC)Yay for Will Parry, F'lar, Remus, and Faramir!
His Dark Materials is such a stunningly wonderful trilogy. And Dragonriders of Pern, also spectacular! Though I'd have to say F'nor was my favorite, more than F'lar, followed by Robinton :)
I've read The Ruby in the Smoke too! After reading His Dark Materials for the first time, like, 6 years ago, I just had to find something else by Philip Pullman and I found that and really liked it a lot. Although I can remember nothing specific about the plot at *all*. Wasn't there another one called Tiger in the Well? Is that the same series? Cause I think I read that too.
Ahhh so many books, so little time!
