Book meme, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] krabapple and [livejournal.com profile] musesfool.

You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?

Being stuck inside Fahrenheit 451 would absolutely kill me, but...I don't suppose I could be the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy? I could memorize it! Guy What's-his-face, the main character, is the Bible, isn't he, and that's bigger...

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who?

*snorts* Noooooooo, I've never had a crush on a fictional character. *rolls eyes* To keep this a (relatively) short list, I'll keep it to books. So...Calvin O'Keefe, Vanyel Ashkevron, Will Parry, Remus Lupin, Harry Potter, Faramir, Taran, George Cooper, F'lar, Frederick Garland and...probably more. :p

The last book you bought is:

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Brilliant book, btw.

The last book you read:

The Amber Spyglass (for the umpteenth time) by Philip Pullman.

What are you currently reading?

Nothing yet. I haven't decided what book to bring to school tomorrow, as I finished the one I brought today.

Five books you would take to a deserted island:

Don't make me choose only five--I'd never be able to do it. Seriously, never.

And from the same people...

1. Choose five ten of your all time favorite books.
2. Take the first sentence of the first chapter and make a list in your journal.
3. Don't reveal the author or the title of the book.
4. Now everyone try and guess.

1. Autumn had come too swiftly. - The Black Cauldron, by Lloyd Alexander - [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose

2. "I've watched through his eyes, listened through his ears, and I tell you, he's the one. ..." - Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card - [livejournal.com profile] allisonblair and [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide

3. Linderwall was a large kingdom, just east of the Mountains of Morning, where philosophers were highly respected and the number five was fashionable. - Dealing with Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede - [livejournal.com profile] blue_miwako

4. This is where the dragons went. - Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett - [livejournal.com profile] gehayi and [livejournal.com profile] polaris_starz and [livejournal.com profile] manynames and [livejournal.com profile] drakyndra

5. This is a story about something that happened long ago when your grandfather was a child. - The Magician's Nephew, by C.S. Lewis - [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose

6. The copper-haired rider looked at the black sky and swore. - In the Hands of the Goddess, by Tamora Pierce - [livejournal.com profile] ariastar

7. There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. - Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte - [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose

8. The crudely built cart lurched and bounced over the rough coralite terrain, its iron wheels hitting every bump and pit in what passed for a road.

9. She scowled at her glass of orange juice. - The Blue Sword, by Robin McKinley - [livejournal.com profile] underlucius

10. On a cold, fretful afternoon in early October, 1872, a hansom cab drew up outside the offices of Lockhart and Selby, Shipping Agents, in the financial heart of London, and a young girl got out and paid the driver. - The Ruby in the Smoke, by Philip Pullman - [livejournal.com profile] ariastar

Errm, sorry to butt in, I know I don't know you. I've read the Sally Lockhart trilogy and absolutely loved it. I also had the biggest crush on Fred, and I cried when he died. Oh, and remember how Sally went to that man who owned to factory and acted like she was going to marry him right after Fred died. That broke my heart.
I read The Tin Princess too, and I liked it, although it was really different from the Trilogy. I think these books were all really excellent, and I wish they didn't have to stay in the "shadow" of the "His Dark Materials" books.
