Family has left, but today we leave to go visit more family. Back on Thursday, after which I have three priorities:

1. Actually get started on the summer job search.
2. Play more Zelda: Skyward Sword while I still have access to my sister's Wii.
3. Outline and maybe get started on the fourth fic in the series started by Start Infinity Again, which has been developing itself further in my head. It's...another one of those fics with plot. *headdesk*

Otherwise -- LiveJournal, I've put up with a lot over the eight years I've been here -- the eight years I've been paying for this site. And I'd still put up with this latest fuckwittery, even though I had to change my journal style to keep the actually good comments page...but your customer service is for complete shit.

I'm not abandoning LJ, but I think I'm finally going to stop renewing my paid account. And I'll give that money to Dreamwidth, who cares more about their user base.

So...first, can someone remind me how to import my journal entries from LJ to DW? Last time I did it was in 2009.

Second, I am, unsurprisingly, rynne on DW. If I don't already have you added there, could you give me your username?
rynne: (good grammar yay!)
Miscellaneous interesting things actually happening to me:

1. I...got a tumblr. I have no idea how this thing works. Mostly what I want is a place to post all the Kirk/Spock stuff I want to say that most of my flist doesn't care about. XD I...will figure it out? Maybe.

2. I've finally been offered a job with Smarthinking, which is an online tutoring position. I'm going to be a writing tutor, and I'm going to get paid for it. I applied back in December, but they didn't want anyone until the new school year, so only now do they offer me the job.

I am going to take it, since I'm pretty sure I can set my own hours. This is important because I have no idea how much time I'm going to have this fall. And I will already have a job, because Georgetown is giving me work study. Two jobs in my first year of law school...AHAHAHAHA WTF self? I'm an idiot. But I'm not going to turn down Smarthinking until I know how much time I'll have, since I'm pretty sure I can just do it when I have an hour to spare.

3. On Saturday I went to the Renaissance Faire at Lake Tahoe and got my hair done up in these awesome elaborate braids. I've left them in for days now, but I haven't been able to wash that part of my hair, so I think it's time for them to come out. I did, at least, get pictures.

i. Post #1,500! Um, that's a lot. Less so considering it's over almost eight years, but still. A lot of posts.

ii. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on my flist! My parents and I went to visit my grandparents, and then Younger Sis called and Twin skypped from Switzerland, so that was nice.

iii. Remix reveals are up! Finally I can claim my fics. I wrote:

Like a Rolling Stone (The Metamorphic Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] framlingem. Star Trek Reboot, Gaila gen with Sarek and Amanda. This was my assignment.

A Bad Habit (The Master Never Learns Remix) for Hokuto. Doctor Who (1963), various incarnations of the Master and the Doctor, plus a few companions. Pretty much gen but you're welcome to see Doctor/Master subtext, because that was not entirely unintended. :p This was my pinch hit.

Justification (The Psychoanalysis Was So Twentieth Century Remix) for Ineffabilitea. Star Trek Reboot, Kirk/Spock, R-ish. I wrote this for Remix Madness.

I've already put them up on my website. I don't have time right now, but I'll be putting them up here over the next few days.

iv. I have definitely decided to do [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang this year. I've even started it! I've got the first chapter done, and it's already a quarter of the minimum limit for Big Bang, so I'm definitely not going to have any trouble meeting the word count. I imagine it's probably going to hit at least 40,000, maybe 50,000 words.

And I love my idea. This is going to be so awesome. :D

I am now all caught up with Criminal Minds. I am not sure if I should be proud of this considering that was 104 episodes in a week and a half, which is...a lot. I did very much enjoy it, but what is interesting to me is that I don't care about ships, which is pretty unusual even for casual interests (and CM is somewhat more than casual but less than full--like X-Files and West Wing, it seems more like something I'll read fic for and maybe write a couple, but I'm not interested as I was in Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Doctor Who).

Heh. Mostly what I want from the show and the fandom is to watch Reid be smart and awesome and often adorable, and I've been getting a lot of that so I'm happy. I just...have no real preference for ships. It's very odd, but also somehow refreshing.

Anyway. It's just as well I finished CM today because tomorrow will be spent packing. It's my last day in Reno. I'm going to Santa Cruz first to spend a couple days with my little sister and take her out for her twenty-first birthday, and then Saturday I leave.

I've never spent more than two and a half weeks abroad, and that was roughly ten years ago. I'm going to create a blog for friends and family to follow, but I need to think of a good name for it. XD Anyone have any suggestions for usernames appropriate to studying about in London/England/Britain/UK?

Classes are done! Done! Now I just have three finals and a paper, and I am so getting started on that paper tomorrow, but classes are finally over and I don't have to make myself get up earlier than I otherwise would until next Friday, when I will be spending thirteen hours in a car, gah.

That was a long sentence. XD

In other news, Dreamwidth. My thoughts on it are vague. I mostly got one because I like having backups on the major journaling sites, and I wanted to make sure I got my name before anyone else could. However, as long as everyone on my flist either stays on LJ or crossposts from DW (as it seems people are), I'm staying on LJ. And probably not crossposting to DW, unless I stop being lazy at some point (not likely). My LJ is paid until January, and I don't want to waste that. I'd get a paid DW account, but they're more expensive and so far don't offer anything I really need. By the time my LJ isn't paid anymore, cost of DW paid accounts will have gone up as well. Also, I don't get as many icons with a DW paid account as with an LJ paid account (at least without the whole extra userpics thing), and DW doesn't offer extra userpics yet, from what I can tell.

So basically, sticking with LJ for now, and will probably only really move if everyone else on my flist stops posting here.

And now, the semester is practically over, and I'm tired.
