rynne: (kill you with my mind)

I hate crane flies. They're huge, and they just sit on the wall or the ceiling and lurk. I hate it when bugs lurk. And they're huge, so it's hard to just ignore them, and they're everywhere. It's a rare day when I don't have at least one in my room, and we can't really keep them out, since our windows don't have screens. So either we stifle or we have bugs, and really I do prefer the bugs because they're harmless and don't do anything (there's one above my bed that's just been sitting there for hours), but I hate it when they lurk.

Also, I looked them up in wikipedia, because I'd always thought of them as mosquito hawks until people up here kept referring to them as crane flies. And apparently mosquito hawk is a regional term for the same bug, and a bunch of other countries call them daddy long-legs. Which just sounds weird, because to me, daddy long-legs are the big spiders.

So in summation: I hate bugs, and people use too many different terms for the same thing. XD

Hey Corinne!
I was just wondering if I could get that cake box back from you sometime soon (I just made another cake and I don't want it to get stale!). Could you bring it to fiction tomorrow? Or call me tonight if you're still up and I'll come collect it.

Thanks!

There is one in my bathroom just now! : ) We call them Daddy-Long legs here. I'll have to catch it and put it out , but just now it's sitting very still and not annoying anyone.

I've never heard of a spider called Daddy-Long Legs...

Yeah, I tend to leave them alone, since they don't do anything. It's just a bit creepy to have them lurking there, though. XD

Daddy long-legs here are a big, though harmless, spider. There's an urban myth around that they're the most poisonous spider in the world, just that their fangs are too small to bite anyone, but I don't know how true that is. :p

I swear, everyone has a different name for those bugs! To me they're mosquito hawks, and they're, like, the only bugs that don't frighten me. Also, because I'm very lazy about putting up posters, they're kind of my only wall decoration at the moment. :)

Yeah, I looked them up on wikipedia, and was amazed at how many names they had. But we are from close to the same region, so it makes sense we'd call them the same thing.

I had to google them because here we've always just called them "huge mosquitoes". They used to lurk outside our apartment last year, but I never knew they had a specific name! And you're right about how creepy they are.

I was really just commenting to add that to me, daddy long legs are spiders too :D Ugh, bugs.

Yeah, I had to look them up on wikipedia, just to make sure it was the bug I was thinking of. I've always just called them mosquito hawks.

Ugh, bugs. XD
