Dear University of Puget Sound,

If you say you're going to call me on Friday morning, please to be doing that. If I leave a voicemail, call me back, and if I get a receptionist, don't just give me the runaround before telling me that the person I need isn't available. I am trying to get things set up for when I go back in the fall, and I'd really like to get that taken care of.

No love,
me

Just came back from an end-of-school party at [livejournal.com profile] velesia's. Did not drink enough to get more than a bit tipsy, but am still SO SLEEPY. Going to bed early tonight.

And I want my grades for the semester to be posted. I am confident I got As in both of them, but I'd still like that confirmed.

*Sigh* Univesities are pains sometimes.

Thinking of that, I really need to check mine's all sorted for next year…

Yes, they are. Especially when you're going back after taking a year and a half off. I'd like to get things all sorted, but it's difficult when they don't cooperate. XD

Heh, I'm going back after a year off. This doesn't bode particularly well, does it? XD

Hey, maybe the UK is more competent than the US. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. :p

HAHAHAHA... oh, you were serious? :P

It could go either way, to be fair. I am the first person to take a year out in my department in long enough that they're asking me to write some of the literature. That said, they have acknowledged that I will be returning, which is promising.

Half-joking, but really, sometimes it's hard to get more incompetent than the US. Your uni would have to be something...impressive. XD

I think taking time off is fairly common here. I'm not sure what that says about our system. *g*

Time off depends on discipline in this country. I'm maths and no maths students bother, but it's actually required for a lot of engineering degrees that you do a year's placement in a relevant industry, so I think the engineering depts are probably better at dealing with it!

Huh, that's interesting. Here, what major you are doesn't really have anything to do with it. I'm English, and my twin, who also took a year off, is Physics/Astronomy, and my best friend's boyfriend, who's also been out a year and a half, is Computer Science. For job placements in relevant industries, we do summer internships, then back to school in the fall. Department doesn't really have anything to do with taking time off--at my school, at least, it's Academic Advising and Student Services who deal with it.

I think most people here, once they've started their degree, keep going until the end. I'm working, yes, but it was counted as suspending my course for a year, which is uncommon and mostly associated with people who drop out because they need time off (which is effectively why I did it, so no criticism, I just have an office job which makes it look legit, as opposed to a retail/burger-flipping, which would look like just something to do before going back to uni).
