So awhile ago, I started writing this Ten/Rose reunionfic (because there aren't enough of those around already XD). I knew I wasn't going to finish it before season four aired, but that was all right with me, as I thought we wouldn't see Rose until the end of the season. That would give me a few months to finish it and post it before it got jossed.

But now the Unexpected!Rose at the end of Partners in Crime has already jossed my idea (which I am very fond of as it is). I still want to write my fic, but I'm not sure if I should stay true to my original idea, or adapt the story to make the appearance in Partners in Crime fit. I'm tempted to adapt it, but it might lessen the cohesiveness of the story if I have to explain that. Also, I started the story knowing it was going to be jossed eventually--I guess it's jossed earlier than I expected.

I've written stories that have been jossed before--most of my HP fic falls into that category. But I really prefer sticking as close to canon as possible, in fics that aren't deliberately AU, and I dislike using the excuse that I started before the show proves it wrong, if I also don't finish before then.

I'm just...really attached to my idea as it is, and I don't want to adapt it. *sigh* But oh well. What I'll probably end up doing is saying it's a post-Voyage of the Damned AU, since AU gives me all sorts of leeway. :p

Also, [livejournal.com profile] velesia and I are up to Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways, for the next time we have enough time to watch. But I am very impatient, so I will probably end up watching Parting of the Ways before then. God, I love that episode. I love that episode. I would have no problems watching it more than once in a week. :p It's my favorite episode out of all of Doctor Who, and eeeeeee I love it, and I hope Vel loves it too.

I'd suggest writing your fic as you want it. I've been caught out a few times with SW, and the "I started before before the showed proved me wrong" is a valid excuse - it happens to many of us! : ) If you love your idea than just roll with it!
