So a bunch of people on my flist are going on about how there's new Torchwood tonight, and, especially after looking at a few people's reactions to previous eps in this season, I'm curious. I've got S1 next up in my Netflix queue (though I've heard it's not that good), but I've not seen any of it yet.

So, my questions--first, do you think I'd be all right picking it up tonight, or would it be a lot easier to understand if I watched from the beginning? (Note that I have seen Doctor Who, so I know things about Jack.) And, if starting now is fine, where do I watch it?

I think it's worth watching. You might not have a comprehensive history of all team members under your belt, but if you saw the last season of dr. Who, you'll get the pertinent references.

Besides, it's like a Welsh giant orgy. What's not to love?

Meanwhile I am of another opinion entirely, which is -- Torchwood may not have actual emotional continuity but I imagine you would be sort of at sea if you didn't know at least some of the stuff that went on first season.

But s1 is worth watching just for s2.

Well seeing as we've only just started season 2 over here (episode 4 aired last night) and British serials are shorter the US ones, I'd say start with series one and then catch up with 2.

Season 1 has some cute moments but is very patchy.

I adore Torchwood. The first series is very adult - this has been toned down thus far for the series 2 - but I adored it. Series 2 is proving to be far superior and the banter and one liners have been flying. Jack just gets better and better and I'm enthralled by the man! : ) Having James Marsters in the popping up every now and then is an absolute delight (although I kept expecting him to "vamp out"!).
