Jul. 21st, 2007 03:40 pmI am so much with the love for almost everything that happened after the Trio got to Hogsmeade. SO MUCH WITH THE LOVE.
Aberforth! And the goat!
NEVILLE OMFG YOU WIN YOU WIN. I especially love that he was the first one openly defying Voldemort TO HIS FACE after Harry's "death". And that he's the one who killed Nagini! NEVILLE YOU AWESOME BOY. He's come so far since the first book!
I'm not sure what to think about Remus during this book, but I was pretty sure he was going to die. I'm sorta eh about it. On one hand, poor Teddy! On the other, I think he was overall happier to be reunited with Lily, James, and Sirius.
Snape's death. I knew it was going to happen, and I do rather like that he didn't deliberately sacrifice himself for Harry, but I do wish that Harry could have realized while Snape was alive that there was more to him than met the eye.
I'm also not that pleased that EVERYTHING was because of Lily. I don't mind him having been in love with her, but I want him to have had other motivations. Like my desire to have Harry understand Snape better while Snape was alive, I wanted Snape to look at Harry and see Harry, and not either of his parents. I wanted Snape to realize Voldemort was wrong, not because he killed/was going to kill Lily, but because he learned to see the bigger picture--I really agreed with Dumbledore in his contempt for a Snape who wanted Lily spared but didn't care about the people she loved best, not even for her sake. Snape is a character with fantastic depth, but I really think his everything-for-Lily stance shallowed him.
Somewhat surprisingly, I was very happy with the portrayal of the Malfoys all throughout the book. I LOVED that both Lucius and Narcissa cared more about Draco than Voldemort, Narcissa especially was awesome, and I think Draco's characterization was very consistent throughout all seven books. He's always been all talk, and I could totally see him floundering, completely out of his depth with Voldemort's expectations, and willing to latch onto anyone who would help him, even Harry. I really liked that scene with the diadem.
MOLLY WEASLEY WINS AT LIFE, THE UNIVERSE, AND EVERYTHING.
HARRY YOU BIG WOOBIE. You made me so proud! I lovelovelove going to the Forest to die, without even trying to deny the necessity, and the proper use of the Resurrection Stone and seeing his family, and just calmly saying "You weren't" and waiting to die...LOVE. And that his sacrifice for his friends protected all of them because he'd meant to die, was willing to, even though he actually didn't...oh, Harry. The final battle was absolutely brilliant--I loved him explaining everything to Voldemort, in a total mirror of the resurrection scene of Goblet of Fire, AND THEN USING EXPELLIARMUS! And Voldemort's rebounding Avada Kedavra being the one that killed him! I was SO PROUD of Harry for using the Disarming spell, especially given what happened in the beginning, and oh. Love.
I have thoughts on the rest of the book, but I have to go pick up my parents from the airport soon, and I want to reread, so I'll do it later.
