Fighting the KH2 final boss.

The mechanical dragon-thing is an ASS. Much hate.

I know! I can't make myself last beyond the second wing!

(If I level up, will I have more HP/resistance, or does it not matter in fake Gummi Ship mode?)

Levelling up doesn't give you more HP; you can only get it from Get Bonuses, and if you've made it to the final boss, you're beyond that. Besides, I was only level 49 when I beat it, so if you're thereabouts or above, you can do it too. What you need to do is be conservative about defense, and when those annoying white lasers come out, avoid them like hell (going in a square around the edge of the screen works), even at the expense of gathering more energy.

It's just that by the time I get the wings, everything's coming at the same time, and I can't kill those silly floaty things before they explode (conveniently when I pass by them while avoiding the lasers).

Don't bother with the floaty thingies. The lasers do much more damage, especially if more than one catches you. The first couple times I tried, I kept killing the floaty thingies, but the last couple times, I ignored them and concentrated on avoiding the lasers and charging the megalaser. Things do keep coming at the same time, but you have to prioritize.

If it helps, that was the most difficult stage of the battle. Everything else is just straightforward fighting, and you can heal. And the ending is totally worth the aggravation.
