rynne: (can't be too fond of books)

It's really Wednesday, isn't it? (Well, okay, Thursday for people ahead of the West Coast.) It felt so much like Friday all today. Not having any class tomorrow doesn't help the feeling of impending weekend.

Registered for classes today, and I got all my first choices! Intro to Writing Fiction, Intro to English Studies, Brit Lit II (the II is about time period), and Japanese 301. And the class times are perfect--my first class on MWF is at 11, on Tuesday at 1, and Thursday, at 2. I have no classes that go later than 3:20. I love my schedule.

WIN.

Also! NEW BOOK TODAY. It was OMG SO GOOD and I was full of mental incoherent flailing after I finished. For those of you who aren't reading the Firekeeper books by Jane Lindskold--why the hell not? Amazing plots, wonderfully real characters, and eeee. LOVE. They're also must-reads for anyone who's interested in wolves--my favorite character in the series is a wolf named Blind Seer. The books are, in order, Through Wolf's Eyes, Wolf's Head, Wolf's Heart, The Dragon of Despair, Wolf Captured, and the newest one, Wolf Hunting.

READ THEM.

And while I'm speaking of obscure books that I absolutely adore--has anyone out there read the Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman? My ex-boyfriend (whose taste I was only able to appreciate long after we broke up--he was the very first one to introduce me to Discworld and the Star Wars original trilogy, though I didn't care for either at the time) made me read them, but once I started reading the first, it was no longer a question of making me. It's a series of seven books...though I'm not sure any description I could give it could do it justice. It's got the second-strongest male friendship I've ever seen (the first is Frodo and Sam, though the relative strength of both friendships is imo of course), and I love that friendship so damn much. I love those books so damn much. And I can't even really think about writing fic for it, because it's so complete as it is--I really don't feel that I could add anything to it.

READ THOSE TOO.

Okay, enough of the mindless squeeing for one night. :p

eta: Also, eye? Stop twitching. Hate it when my eyes twitch. Feels so weird...

Yes, I've read it, but it's been a long time. Care to refresh my memory of what the friendship was?

The one between Haplo and Alfred. They worked so hard for it, and I just love it. :D

You don't know me and I feel a little weird posting on your journal, but I love the Firekeeper books and no-one has ever heard of them! I think Derian might be my favourite character though.

So far I've only been able to find the first three, so if you want to tell me what happens in the others, that would be nice.

Out of curiosity, how'd you find my journal?

It's depressing how few people have heard of the Firekeeper books--they're so good! Blind Seer is my favorite, but I also love Derian--Lindskold is so mean to him in the two most recent books, though. *winces for poor Derian*

Too much happens in the next two books for me to truly it justice--you really should read them. Suffice to say, a few of the highlights are that Firekeeper, Blind Seer, and Derian go to a new land, Firekeeper and Blind Seer become Ones of their own pack, Elise and Doc are finally resolved, and Firekeeper, Blind Seer, and Derian go to the Old World. That's only the barest of events, though, especially without being too spoilery. You could order the books off the internet, if nothing else.

Sorry, I just remembered that I commented on your lj.
(And I didn't log in, but I didn't really use my lj then.)

I was just looking through interests(Good Omens or Discworld, I think) and I came across your journal and you'd written an entry about Jane Lindskold, and I just finished the third book in the firekeeper series.

I hope nothing too bad happens to Derian. Him and Edlin are my favourites. Him and Edlin, and Blind Seer and Firekeeper, and Sapphire , and Doc, and Elation...

Nothing bad should happen to them.

Really? Firekeeper and Blind Seer become Ones? They do give off a bestiality vibe, she really seems to prefer him to any male human.

There is always Amazon

God, yes. SO much love. So, so much love. When those two came to Gencon, I had them sign one of them. *clutches book fiercely*

I read the first Deathgate book and thought it was weird, but I always did mean to finish the others.

The first one was sort of weird, and the second is probably my least favorite, but from the third onward...OMG. They're so good. You totally need to finish reading the whole cycle.
