One drabble
Oct. 24th, 2004 08:00 pmI've now got a bokken, and it's pretty. I've also learned a few dagger moves, which exacerbates how awkward it is sometimes being the only left-hander in a class full of right-handers. But Kaiden says that being left-handed is an advantage so I am fine.
Er. For newbies to my journal--I'm learning how to sword fight. With a katana. This makes me happy. :D
Today was
queerditch_pub day, but I only managed one drabble before my head made me go back to bed. Tonight's theme was fears.
The eyes only appeared in the dark. Great golden eyes, glinting at him. He hated them, and hated more that he knew they would never really go away.
Remus was glad that Lumos was a first-year spell, and one of the first he'd learned. And that the four-poster beds had curtains that he could close and keep his secret light safe inside with him, away from the other boys and how they would tease him for being afraid of the dark. After all, they didn't know why, and he couldn't tell them.
Golden eyes looking at him, something in them ready to pounce. He'd forgotten to put a light on tonight, and paid for it in dreams. He waited for the spring, the tremendous rush, those eyes getting closer and closer--
"It's all right," someone whispered, moving the bedcurtains aside just enough so they could slip inside. "Lumos. It's all right, Remus, here's light for you."
Now awake enough to see who it was in the light of the magic, Remus blinked to see Sirius reaching forward, smoothing slightly sweat-soaked hair away from his forehead.
"How'd you know?" he whispered. He didn't want to ask Will you stay? but Sirius must have known anyway, for he slipped beneath the covers with Remus, his wand carefully placed at the foot of the bed.
"I heard you, and I didn't see the light beneath the curtains," Sirius answered, and gathered Remus closer to him. "Sleep, Remus. The light's here and I've got you."
Remus drifted off to sleep with the sound and feel of Sirius breathing on his neck, and thought that more comforting than the light.
