*whistles off tune*
Aug. 24th, 2004 10:55 pmEverything my Japanese teacher taught today was something I already knew. XD Thank you, anime, for having some use besides entertainment. I learned a few numbers from Escaflowne, and "learned" one, two, and three today (ichi, ni, and san). Basic greetings, and how to introduce myself. Some people had such trouble pronouncing "hajimemashite", even though Aihara-sensei made us repeat it at least ten times. And I seem to have made an actual friend, one of the freshmen, even if she does sorta tease me for being a high school student. :p
Gmail seems to be inundating people with invites now--I've got six up for grabs, if anyone wants one. Do be sure, if you want one, to give me a viable email address to send it to (as well as something you don't mind putting for a last name--gmail requires that I give people first and last names. *shrug* Doesn't have to be your real one.) You don't have to do anything but comment--I want them to go away! (Though of course, writing/drawing something for me will never go amiss. *coughs, whistles innocently*)
...I'm going to be training someone to be a coder on Friday. *nervous* What if I forget something? I have my own training transcript, at least. I expect I'm going to be going over it many times before Friday to make sure that I know what I'm talking about. XD Well, at least I know what I'm doing, when coding...
But
loupnoir, when asking me if I could, mentioned that she lived in Reno. And that she graduated from UNR. And I exclaimed that I just finished my homework for a class there, which, in hindsight, was probably a mistake, considering it reinforced the idea that I'm a full-time college student when I'm not, as I'm only taking Japanese there (though the homework was very easy, just writing out the hiragana for the vowels...). And I was still lying about my age when I became a coder, and the only way she would have known where I live is by looking at my introduction, which has my false age. Fuck. I knew lying would come back to bite me on the ass sooner or later (as it always does, sigh). And I didn't correct her impression when we were IMing, because it would have been really uncomfortable and so on. >.< Fuck. I both regret lying about my age and don't regret it; I regret it because dammit, I hate lying, and it usually has some pretty sucky consequences, but I don't regret it because I wouldn't have met most of you if I hadn't. Bother. Not sure what I should do, though I think that, unless she or someone asks me directly, in which case I will point them to my entry here where I explained things, I'll just keep quiet about it and wince when remembering how stupid I was. *sigh*
...I have five days left to read Catch-22, and six until the
celticmoonstar fic is due. *facepalm* I should stop procrastinating. Really. My FQF fic is likely to be somewhat complicated too, and certainly will need a bunch of time to write. Dammit. *tries to make sense stop procrastinating*
*watches pigs fly past her window*
Okay. This entry will stop, because I have other things I need to work on. Including beta stuff. *wanders off*

Date: 2004-08-25 07:01 am (UTC)Ah, one of my all-time favorite books.
"Yossarian would live forever, or die trying."
And "'The bombardier! The bombardier!' 'I'm the bombardier and I'm all right!'"
And Nately's whore's kid sister and Orr and "I yearn for you tragically, Chaplain A.E. Tappmann"
Man, I love that book. I should reread it soon.

Date: 2004-08-30 06:28 am (UTC)It's so very, very funny and horrifically sad, too. A brilliant portrait of war. I don't know how much the guys who wrote MASH cribbed from Heller, but I'm willing to bet it was a lot.
