May. 20th, 2011 11:28 pmSo I work at Big Brothers Big Sisters, and today I was helping with an end of the year party at one of the elementary schools who use our school-based program. And one of the girls, maybe ten years old, comes up to me, looks at me for like two seconds, and asks, "What's wrong with your eyes?"
Dude, that is an observant kid. Blunt, but observant. Most people don't realize there's something wrong with my eyes even after I tell them and they stare at them for awhile. I suppose it's easier to pick up that I'm cross-eyed, but most people don't even realize that.
So I tell the kid that I'm half-blind, and she's sad for me for maybe a minute before she has me cover my eyes so she can test my vision. XD Once she confirmed that I cannot, in fact, see anything out of my left eye, she said, "That's so awesome!" and went back to her table.
I was amused rather than offended, though.
