Remix assignment -- complete and betad.
Remix pinch hit -- also complete, and with my beta.
Go me! I feel like I'm finally back in some sort of writing groove. I doubt I will ever be as prolific as I was in my Harry Potter days again, but maybe I can manage Star Wars or Doctor Who levels of writing. Heh, at least until I start law school. :p
I am actually even thinking of doing a Big Bang this year. I never have before -- haven't always been in fandoms where they're popular, couldn't think of a viable idea, was intimidated by the length -- but I think I really want to try
startrekbigbang this year. 20,000 words in three or four months is actually not that much, and seems even less now that I've written my big ST movies meta in a week.
So...hopefully more fic soon. Writing is a lot easier when I can make myself just sit down and do it. XD

Date: 2011-04-25 04:46 am (UTC)My two main ideas keep jostling with each other, and I definitely want to write both of them before law school starts, but I'm not sure which one I want art for more. XD

Date: 2011-04-25 05:03 am (UTC)My first idea is something that I really want to exist: Kirk survives Generations, reunites with Spock, and later ends up falling into Rebootverse with him. I've actually even got this mostly planned out in my head, and it covers both the years between Generations and Reboot, and Reboot with the addition of Kirk Prime. And, hah, even a bit of pervy!Kirk Prime (though mostly an attempt to show Spock that Kirks can be pretty awesome, because Kirk Prime is more than happy to stay with Spock Prime, of course).
This one actually has an entire universe in my head, including side-stories set in the Prime universe, and sequels in Reboot. It's actually sort of intimidating, which might be why I haven't started on these yet. :p (The other reason is my laziness and procrastination abilities. XD)
The second idea sort of came out of nowhere and I still feel sort of strange about it because I've never written anything like it before. It's, um, Jim is a selkie. And Spock, who hasn't been in the Academy very long and is fascinated by the Pacific Ocean, meets him and is highly intrigued. Eventually they fall in love (duh), and Jim has to decide if he's willing to try leaving the sea, because that kind of thing doesn't tend to work out well, according to the old legends. I've already got Jim's backstory all planned out, and a lot of the sequence of events as well.
I've even got an idea for a sequel for this one too! So that's no help. XD
I do want to write both of these, but I am...rather bad at actually writing all the things I want to, especially if they're long, so I need to decide which has higher priority. :p

Right! Being helpful now. *ahem*
Maaaaaaaaaan, they both sound so good! T_T Um. Um. Crap, this is hard. Okay . . . I'm going to say . . . I'm gonna say the Kirk!Prime one, and here's why. You can focus on the main story (which sounds OMG AMAZING, btw) for the Big Bang, and get what I'm willing to bet will be some pretty epic Spork2 out of the deal. (Yes, that is their official name now. The rum and I have decided.) Then you can do the side-stories, which I'm guessing will probably be shorter things, at your leisure in between posting and NEXT year's BB, for which you can do the sequel. Or, if you decide you can't wait, you'll still have selkie!Jim in reserve for next year.
I AM PRETTY SURE I AM ALL THE SMART.

Date: 2011-04-25 05:29 am (UTC)I admit I have been sort of leaning towards Kirk!Prime, because I can't believe no one has written this yet! I've seen Kirk survives Generations (though unfortunately only one-shots that end with them reuniting), and I've seen Primes reunite in Rebootverse, but for some reason no one has combined them yet. I suppose this means I'll just have to do it myself. :p

Date: 2011-04-25 05:31 am (UTC)And for the record, I'm pretty much always up for talking about fic. -_- Random plotting is one of my main joys in life.

Date: 2011-04-25 05:45 am (UTC)most of the people on my flist who are ST fans are not K/S fans (as much as that boggles my mind)
Does . . . not . . . compute . . . I mean . . . epic! Friendship that defines them both! At his side, as if you've always been there and always will be! HAVE BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE!

*FLAILS*
(Also, I got distracted there for a minute because while I was double-checking some of the quotes I found http://fuckyeahspacehusbands.tumblr.com/ XD)
*ahem*
In any case, yes. Also, I would argue that when the characters' creator ships it, it's canon. -_- I, um. I have some strong feelings about this. XD

Date: 2011-04-25 06:32 am (UTC)I actually know plenty of people who think that canon or close-to-canon ships are boring, or who aren't terribly interested in the easy-friendship/love/soulmate kind of relationship. I also know people who ship Reboot Kirk/McCoy, which makes a lot more sense in Reboot than in TOS.
(I can't see it personally, but that's when I go off on how the entire point of the movie was to get Kirk and Spock together and how I can't imagine the relationship between nu!Kirk/Spock not evolving to be similar to their Prime counterparts and therefore it is just not fair to give them outside relationships because they'll get so wrapped up in each other that they can't give anyone else the kind of time and attention a relationship deserves.
See? RAMBLE. XD)
But yes. People ship different things for different reasons, but K/S falls into my own shipping pattern perfectly, so now it's definitely at the point where my brain tries to break even imagining them with someone else. Or even in a threesome that doesn't involve other versions of themselves. XD

Date: 2011-05-04 01:35 am (UTC)oh dear, now I DO sound entirely jaded and weary. But I wish someone had said this to me, even though I'm several years on the other side of it, rather than just said, "oh yeah, it can be hard." No - this is why it's hard. Once you see that it's all a big game, it becomes easy. But you have to see that first, and it's not always easy, frankly, to remember that.
That being said - enjoy! It's a hell of a ride! (and sorry for the entirely unsolicited advice! *wry*)

Date: 2011-05-04 11:49 pm (UTC)So thank you! I will definitely try to keep your advice in mind when I get there, but I can't really know how I need to apply it until I'm actually in it. :p
