WOW do I go for a particular type or what? Over the past season and a half Spencer Reid has become my favorite character, and that was before I knew he got kidnapped and tortured.

I am so predictable with the characters I get most attached to--pretty much men who have things to angst about. Like the Doctor, who will angst about anything he possibly can. Josh Lyman, whose sister died in a fire when he was a kid and who later got shot, almost died, and developed PTSD. Fox Mulder, who pretty much had shit poured all over his life. Cloud Strife, likewise. Frodo Baggins, who had to leave Middle-earth because he'd had such prolonged mental torture by bearing the Ring that he couldn't stay. Luke Skywalker, who got his hand cut off by his own father, and that's to say nothing of all the stuff that happened to him in the EU.

Heh. Now there's Reid, with a father who walked out, a schizophrenic mother, and who has now been kidnapped and tortured and forced to dig his own grave omg (omfg that would totally mess me up) and it looks like is now addicted to the drugs he hadn't even wanted to be injected with in the first place.

But the thing that definitely cements it is how he was stronger than that. (Well, I haven't seen how the drugs have played out yet, so that's up in the air.) But him being instrumental in his own rescue by first being observant enough to figure useful information on where he was and then finding a way to surreptitiously give Hotch that information in a way that would tip Hotch off but not Tobias? And then him being able to take advantage of Tobias's moment of distraction to grab a gun and take a perfect shot (with incredible aim despite having been tortured and drugged and died and brought back by CPR (I raise an eyebrow at him having such good aim after all that, but I'll let it go))? Oh, Reid. You are so awesome.

AND REID IS FROM NEVADA. From Vegas, a city which I somewhat resent because it's so famous it's like the rest of Nevada doesn't exist, but still! Nevada!

It's late so I'm gonna go to bed now and watch more CM in the morning. Spencer Reid, welcome to the club. XD

*Pets Reid* The show doesn't half seem intent on being mean to him. I think he makes an appearance on the TV Tropes Break The Cutie page (but there will be spoilers for the future there).

Break The Cutie? Dude. I try very hard to avoid TV Tropes because if I don't it will EAT MY DAY but at some point if I need new fandoms I might have to find that page because it sounds like the people there are exactly my type.

Spencer Reid is the reason I watch Criminal Minds. Possibly because the Reid kidnap two parter was the very first CM episode I watched.

I pretty much don't pick up a show unless I can watch it in order, but those were two damn good episodes and Matthew Gray Gubler was so awesome.

Well, I didn't mean to pick it up. :) My roommates left the TV on after whatever they were watching, CM came on, I was still working on homework... And the rest is history.

Reid is pure concentrated geeky awesome. He is so so so much stronger than he gives himself credit for and *such* a dork. He also gets an awesome amount of character development over the course of the show.

Just wait for the start of season five. You'll start loving Hotch, too. *<3s both*

I think Hotch is number three for me, after Reid and Garcia.
