Jan. 16th, 2009 02:42 pmSo today I rewatched the DW S4 DVD extra "The Journey So Far", which is about the evolution of the series. There were a bunch of lovely new Doctor/Rose quotes from the production team, so I decided to transcribe them since I haven't seen anyone else do it yet. But this extra is definitely worth a watch. :D
Julie Gardner, on Rose in Dalek: She's the one woman, the one human, that can make him better, that can make him a bigger character, a better man.
RTD: As Rose learns about the universe, the Doctor learns about a different sort of universe from Rose. [cut to "What use are emotions if you will not save the woman you love?" scene in Dalek]
JG, on Rose in The Christmas Invasion: Rose, of course, was suspicious, because she absolutely adored, loved Christopher Eccleston's Doctor. [cut to scene of Rose crying in Jackie's arms in TCI.] So, she had to fall in love with him again, which was kind of, I guess, the experience for the audience. (Thanks,
seagryphon, for letting me know what that word was.)
RTD: One of the most important things about School Reunion is what it actually says about the Doctor and Rose, about how long you can be with a man who lives forever, if you're going to get old and die and he won't. [cut to Rose asking "Do I stay with him?" and Sarah Jane answering "Yes. Some things are worth getting your heart broken for."]
DT, on Doomsday: And at the same time, you've got the conclusion of this incredible emotional storyline as well. [cut to Rose's "I love you" on the beach.]
Phil Collinson: The performances of Billie and David are just, just transcendental, really. [cut to the Doctor's "Rose Tyler..." and fading away, and Rose crying.] They were magnificent on that beach, and it felt like real pain, and real drama, the truest drama, about, about two lovers, really, who are being torn apart. And for that to be happening, in the middle of a big daft old sci-fi show at seven o'clock, was a magnificent achievement, and really showed where this show could go.
RTD: Then with series four, we've done the great story of the Doctor and Rose, we've done poor Martha's unrequited love, it's sort of like, it was time to put a "best mate" on board the TARDIS. [cut to various scenes of the Doctor and Donna saying they're not a couple.]
JG: But Russell T Davies is just a bad man. We've waited for so many seasons for Rose to finally find the Doctor--it's that amazing smile, I think, that Billie has, a big close up when she first sees him that kind of says everything. And that run, I love that run. His run is so beautifully fast and therefore so romantic. [voiceover on the running scene in The Stolen Earth.] And of course it all goes wrong, of course it does, the Daleks were always there, to scupper a bit of romance, and hope.
DT, on Bad Wolf Bay Redux: You want to give a resolution to this storyline that has gone on for four years, really. You want to give Rose a conclusion and an end to her journey. [voiceover on Rose kissing Ten II.]

Date: 2009-01-17 02:35 pm (UTC)Dude! Right! I so want to sit her down over milk and cookies (or maybe vodka tonics!) and just have like a four hour talk. Shes seems like such a kindred spirit! There have been so many times when I've thought or felt something about an episode or a character (and not just D/R stuff...although that's a lot of it) and then I've listened to the commentary or the confidential and there she is, feeling the same or explaining things in a way that makes me feel alright again. She's the coolest ever. AND she has great earrings. :):):)

But they also make me sad: You want to give a resolution to this storyline that has gone on for four years, really. You want to give Rose a conclusion and an end to her journey
No more Doctor/Rose.
I'm conflicted.

Oh, David Tennant, you can't fool me. This is clearly pandering to the conspiracy, to throw us all off the scent of that amazing TenII/Rose in Pete's World special that you are obviously planning. Because I say so.

*pats RTD* oh, you know not what you do when you say things like that ;)
Phil Collison: The performances of Billie and David are just, just transcendental, really. [cut to the Doctor's "Rose Tyler..." and fading away, and Rose crying.] They were magnificent on that beach, and it felt like real pain, and real drama, the truest drama, about, about two lovers, really, who are being torn apart.

And David is so tall! But yes, it is romantic and I love the entire crew because they are big damn shippers.
DT, on Bad Wolf Bay Redux: You want to give a resolution to this storyline that has gone on for four years, really. You want to give Rose a conclusion and an end to her journey.
You can't fool me David, I know you're a shipper! I've watched the confidentials.

That quote was mostly about how S4 needed Donna to be a best mate, so I only added it for the "great story of the Doctor and Rose". :D

"If Rose is all you want in the universe..." ;) DT may have toned it down a bit for this, but we know he's a total shipper. :D

Date: 2009-01-17 01:02 pm (UTC)Though one of my fave lines from David, it isn't there, but it's when he says, "...bassically a love story without the sh**ging." on the Doctor and Rose. I think it was on the radio somewhere.
Also love how blatant JG is about the shipping :D
Though I am sad it all seems to be over *sobs* I gotta go watch something from series 2. It'll make me feel better.

Hearing JG say that resonated for me, because I can clearly remember being so sad that Nine was leaving, and being scared that I wouldn't like Ten...but it didn't take long to fall in love with him! :-)
Thanks for posting these!

Date: 2009-01-22 08:06 am (UTC)It took me awhile to warm up to Ten, and Nine is actually still my favorite, but I grew to love Ten very much as well. It's going to be so hard seeing him regenerate!

Date: 2009-01-18 04:32 am (UTC)*sigh* I really do love it when the producers go all Shippy on us.
DT, on Bad Wolf Bay Redux: You want to give a resolution to this storyline that has gone on for four years, really. You want to give Rose a conclusion and an end to her journey. [voiceover on Rose kissing Ten II.]
Now, now David, we all know the only reason Rose stayed with TenII is because
A, We got an incredible shippy moment.
B, We get Sad!Doctor that we can all fangirl over.
C, David got to snog Billie and vice versa.
and finally
D, When Ten regenerates to Eleven, we can all remember that Rose still has a version of Ten, therefore Ten still exists. (Or translated into my thoughts: RTD, DT, BP and JG, Didn't want to share Rose with any other Doctor or producer(Bear in mind I do love Eccleston, and im not saying anything against 9))
