Today I got The Caves of Androzani and two Six serials from Netflix. This is sad, both because I don't want to watch Five regenerate yet, and because it means I'm running out of Classic Who, and serials are not getting released on DVD fast enough to keep up with me. XD

This means that I need more things for my Netflix queue. Recommendations? I prefer something that won't completely break my heart, thanks. I thought about Buffy, which I've actually never seen a single episode of, but people keep going on about Joss Whedon and angst, so I'm not sure. Umm, for shows I've seen, there's Firefly, House, X-Files, West Wing, Supernatural, and...probably more I can't think of right now. I started Stargate SG-1, but got so bored I couldn't finish the second episode. I don't much care for humorous shows, unless the humor is wry rather than in your face. I usually end up shipping (often the main pairing presented), but would definitely prefer there to be pay-off. I think that's about it, but I'll appreciate any recommendations I'm given.

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.

Buffy does have the angst but has an incredible amount of light bits and is very funny.

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes aren't on Netflix--or at least, the British version, which I've heard is the better.

Is Buffy satisfying? From what I have picked up on the internet, I'm not sure I'd like it, just for what Joss does to ships.

Yeah Joss does have a tendency to kick you in the teeth with ships but I see it more as the fact that he got me to love them so much. But it satisfied me so much.

See if you can get Hex which you might not as it's a British series but it's set in a boarding school with lesbian ghosts and legends!

I'd go with Buffy, especially if you're looking for something that will last for a while. I believe it took me about 3 months to get through it all from Netflix and, I think, it's totally worth it.

I've thought about Buffy more than once, but what I've picked up online about what Joss does to ships worries me. I always tend towards shipping, and I prefer not to have my ships destroyed. :p

I love Buffy, but it does have a fair bit of angst in the later seasons. The humor is very similar to Firefly, and there's a ton of cross-over casting between the two series (and Angel as well).

If you liked Firefly, I'd say to go with Buffy, but know that it's both funny and angsty. There are seven seasons, plus Angel too, if you're into that.

I did like Firefly, but not passionately, and I did not like Wash's death in Serenity, which I've heard is typical of what Joss does to his ships, so I'm not sure I want to go through that.

Yeah, Wash's death was awful, and completely typical of Joss. He does that, for some reason. And he does it a lot in seven seasons, so maybe you do want to steer clear...

Six Feet Under is pretty amazingly awesome.

I looked it up, and I'm not sure it's for me. :p

Buffy definitely has some lighter moments, so I'd recommend that for sure. Just finished watching the whole thing with my daughter and wondered why I hadn't bothered before! That said, I'm generally a fan of grittier stuff - 24, Deadwood, Oz. If you were going to try any of those, I'd suggest Oz. When Nyssa first came home from college a couple years ago she found me watching some of it. She turned her nose up at it but sat down on the couch anyway. By the time the episode was over, she was hooked! Definitely an R-rated series, though. :)

I still have reservations about Buffy, but I might check out the other things! Thanks. :)
