Another short picspam
Jun. 30th, 2008 08:27 pmThere's something I've been seeing about a certain scene in The Stolen Earth...
So, I've seen a few people who didn't like the reunion scene in TSE--or at least, didn't like how cliche the "seeing at a distance and running towards each other" thing was. I can get their point--yeah, it was pretty cliche. But the thing is, I don't think anything else could have fit quite so well. How significant has running been to these two?

Doctor: Run!
It was the very first word he said to her! The very first! Before they knew each other's names, before any other words were spoken, before almost anything else, they ran together.

Doctor: Very first word I ever said to you. Trapped in that cellar. Surrounded by shop window dummies... oh... such a long time ago. I took your hand... I said one word... just one word, I said... "Run".
Rose: Doctor?
Doctor: Hello.
He regenerates, and it's "Run" that convinces her it's still him. They started running, and they never stopped. All across the universe. Running, running, running...

That montage from Army of Ghosts, snapshots of their life together--and one of the scenes is of them running. Running and smiling and laughing. We don't know if they're running from something or just for the sheer joy of it, but they obviously have joy in it. Running, together.
So really, when they finally see each other again...

...how could they do anything else but run?

Date: 2008-07-01 06:05 pm (UTC)After two series of pain, sometimes the slightly cliche and over the top is just what's needed. And for those two, as you've said, it was so perfect.

Date: 2008-07-01 09:40 pm (UTC)Personally, anything less than that would have been a disappointment- we waited in anguish since last week, when he first realized Rose was involved in all of it, and he was obviously searching for traces of her this whole episode. And then, of course, the running and the joy. It was romantic and cliched and absolutely fantastic.
And, you know, then the shooting and the exploding and whatnot, but we'll see how that goes. ;)
