I think she's the Doctor's very last companion. That's why she has the sonic screwdriver; he left it to her when he died.

That might work, though I thought her sonic screwdriver looked rather different than his. And I'm not sure about the apparent meetings all over time.

Oh, totally amusing. But River is TOTES THE MASTER and I will keep saying so until I am proven wrong. Until we see for sure, River is ALL THINGS. It's like Schroedinger's Doctor Who.
