Apr. 12th, 2008 03:57 pmDonna Noble, I love you. You are both challenging and sympathetic, basically everything I hoped, and exactly what the Doctor needs.
Last night I watched The Doctor Dances with my friend. When Jack and the Doctor had their "volcano day" exchange, I mentioned to my friend that the ep today was "The Fires of Pompeii" and they used that phrase. I hadn't thought that this episode would remind me so strongly of TDD, though--except in reverse. "Everybody lives" becomes "everybody dies". Oh Doctor. The only thing this episode did to you that was kind was giving you Donna.
(God, I'm so, so pleased with Donna. It's her third episode, counting TRB, and I love her already.)
THE WATER PISTOL. That was so awesome. XD
The Doctor explain a bit about his time sense! This makes me happy. Some things are fixed and some things are in flux, and he can tell which is which because that's just who he is...I like that. I think it explains the end of TCI--he was all right with destroying Harriet Jones's career, despite the three successive terms that he mentioned in WWIII, probably because that was in flux. That was what I thought in the first place, but it's nice to get confirmation that the Doctor really does see time like that.
The plot wasn't very stand-out. It was mostly significant for the parallels to Gallifrey, and to give the Doctor angst. Also, to show that Donna is willing to share the hard decisions with him--I was glad that she and the Doctor pushed the lever down together, and her "Never mind us" was wonderful. Her pushing him to save just one person was perfect, exactly what he needed (it reminded me of Evolution of the Daleks--the Doctor couldn't save everyone the Daleks killed, or all the pig slaves, but he was determined to save Laszlo just to have something good happen). I liked that he acknowledged at the end that she was right, at the end of TRB--sometimes he does need someone.
More god imagery. RTD is definitely going somewhere with this.
Basically, I think Donna is wonderful and amazing, and I totally can't wait to see the rest of their adventures together. I think I'm really going to love this season.
And finally, because I can't not mention it... "She is returning." PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE be what I think that is! XD
eta: They mentioned the Shadow Proclamation again! I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT.

Like Harriet Jones: was that only not a problem because the Master later appeared in the picture and he would have knocked her off anyway? *Tries to stop brain from twisting into knots*

Yeah, it so is. I'll probably try to think about it more in depth later and then my brain will break, but for now, I'm just pleased that the Doctor's time sense is something like I already thought it was. :p
