Happy Easter! Spring is on its way. We can has warm now? I think Thailand totally spoiled me.

Yesterday I watched the last half of DW S2. (Yes, it's another DW post. Judging by the response--or lack thereof--to most of my DW posts, not many people care. I think this is why I haven't yet posted any of my DW fic here, though I really think I should do that sometime, if only for tagging. Anyway--clearly I need to make more DW friends, especially ones who won't look at me oddly when I go off on squee about Doctor/Rose.)

On that note, tonight my parents brought up the idea of visiting Twin sometime this spring, and would I like to come along? Of course I said yes. I visited her in November, and that was totally awesome. My first thought was totally normal: hey, it'll be cool to see her and her friends again, and she'll be happy 'cause she likes being visited. My second thought? I wondered if she would let me take her DW DVDs home with me. :p

ANYWAY. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit is, I think, my favorite S2 two-parter, but I'll talk about it later. Mostly right now I'm having thoughts about Fear Her and Army of Ghosts/Doomsday. (And the Doomsday music just came on iTunes in shuffle. COINCIDENCE?)

Warning: v. long entry.

I'm sorry, did this episode have a plot? Something about people being sucked into drawings, you say? You sure it's not just the Doctor and Rose being REALLY flirty and TOTALLY ADORABLE?

Sorry, I don't believe you. :D

Doctor: Tell me how awesome I am. You know you want to.

Doctor: I have a manly hairy hand. See? See? Isn't it just so MANLY? What do you mean, I'm supposed to be asexual?
Rose: You're such a dork.

Doctor: You think a cat is more beautiful than I am? Am I seriously jealous of a cat? No, of course not! It's...just they remind me of the nuns! Are you buying this?
Rose: No.

Doctor: Every investigation is brightened up by a bit of role-playing!

Doctor: A random scribble creature attacked you and did no damage whatsoever? Oh well, any excuse for a hug!

Doctor: You want to have sex with me now.
Rose: Yeah, I rather do.

Doctor & Rose: *are awesome at tag-teaming*

Doctor: I am so comfortable with you and your foibles that I want you to spit your gum into my hand so I can use it for what I'm building.
Rose: And I don't even find this weird.

Doctor: Nothing makes me happier than getting to hold your hand.

Rose: Even though I was finding the mystery of the week while you were rambling about edible ball bearings, I was still listening.
Doctor: You are the most awesome thing that ever awesomed.

Doctor: I am so content right now.

Though this episode is pretty light-hearted--well, relatively--it still packs a few whallops.

ROSE: Thousands of years just floating through space... poor things - don't they go mad with boredom?

CHLOE: We play.

ROSE: You... play?

THE DOCTOR: Mm. While they travel, they play games. They use their ionic power to literally create make-believe worlds in which to play.

ROSE: In-flight entertainment.

THE DOCTOR: Helps keep them happy. While they're happy, they can feed off each other's love. Without it, they're lost.

How totally does that describe both Rose and the Doctor during S2, and the Doctor during S3?

THE DOCTOR: Fear. Loneliness. They're the big ones, Rose. Some of the most terrible acts ever committed have been inspired by them. We're not dealing with something that wants to conquer or destroy.

*thinks of The Runaway Bride and Family of Blood, and shivers*

(Dialogue from Doctor Who Transcripts)

I really love this episode. :D

Actually, I love these episodes too. Does this make me a masochistic shipper? :p

I so wish that AoG deleted scene had been left in. Okay, so it technically didn't add anything to the plot, but! It was so cute! They're holding hands just because, and the Doctor is the one to reach out! Clearly this deserves lots of exclamation points! Also, he's so cheerful about going to see Rose's mother, which is just--wow, how far has he come since AoL/WW3? I keep intending to write a post on how much I love the Doctor's connection with Rose's family and what it means, but not today. :p

In terms of stuff that's actually in the episode...like pretty much every D/R shipper out there, I love the "forever" scene. He's the one who asked her, and then he smiled at her reply. As much as she wants forever with him, so does he, with her, and he's willing to at least try and let go of his "wither and die" issues. This is just...really big.

*snickers* Look at the expression on her face! She's so doing it just to mess with him. :D

And he's letting himself be messed with. He's totally thinking "Jackie cooties!" right there.

His only problem with sitting in the Tyler flat and watching TV is what's actually on TV. Again, how far he's come since AoL...

Y HELLO THAR MARTHA. Oh, RTD and his habit of reusing actors...

The Ghostbusters scene is so cute. He just bursts out with "Who you gonna call?" and she's right on with "Ghostbusters!" They're so in sync.

I'm not really one for talking during movies/TV shows, but the first time I watched this, with Twin, I was seriously like, "Oh, come on, Jackie! People change! That's life!" during Jackie's speech. I can understand where she's coming from, but I'll never like it.

His horror at Jackie on the TARDIS amuses Rose. It amuses me too. :D

Torchwood's GLEE! at finding the Doctor mostly amuses me. I say mostly because part of me is all "TORCHWOOD YOU BASTARDS LEAVE HIM ALONE", but still. I am easily amused.

And on that note...the Doctor ragging on Jackie also amuses me. It's so totally revenge for that kiss. *g*

Also, when Rajesh says they've looked at the sphere with every instrument imaginable...and the Doctor looks at it with his 3-D specs. That's awesome.

Daleks! Yay, Daleks! Their voices are really damn annoying, but I love Daleks. :D

And Rose is so awesome with them. She knows just what to say to keep her and Mickey alive.

DALEK/CYBERMAN BITCHFIGHT. No matter what happens in the rest of Doomsday, I will forever love it for the Dalek/Cyberman interactions. I especially glee! at "CYBERMAN: We have five million Cybermen. How many are you? DALEK SEK: Four."

Just. Everything about that is awesome. :D:D

When Rose identifies the Doctor, the Daleks roll back a bit. Just like in Parting of the Ways, when the Doctor yells at them. Also:

DALEK SEK: The female's heartbeat has increased.
MICKEY: Yeah, tell me about it.

:D:D:D

Yay, Jake! I like Jake. I want him and Rose to be really good friends in Pete's World.

Despite everything that's going on, the Doctor's trying to matchmake. Was he planning even this early to send Rose to the AU? He has nearly always had that aspect--things could be going completely to shit around him, and all he cares about is making sure Rose is safe. This both makes me happy and makes me want to gnash my teeth. What about her choice, Doctor?

The Doctor knows Jackie's phone number by heart. Hee!

The Doctor's white flag is very cute.

At some point between School Reunion and now, either Rose remembers being Bad Wolf and killing the Emperor, or the Doctor told her about it. I want to know more about this. What exactly does she know?

Jackie and Alt!Pete's first interaction amuses me. "PETE: [...] Made me rich. JACKIE: I don't care about that. (pause) How rich? PETE: Very. JACKIE: I don't care about that. How very?"

HEE.

The Doctor grabs two magnaclamps. If he's planning to send Rose to the AU, who does he think will need the second one? Or is he just being prepared?

This scene is very cute. Except I think that's the last time he really smiles in this episode--at least, a smile that's not full of pain. WOE.

Doctor, you IDIOT! You just had to send her away! Don't you remember what happened last time you did that?

If she's willing to rip open the TARDIS and look into the Time Vortex in order to get back to you, what makes you think she'll just sit in Pete's World when she's even still wearing the button that will instantly take her back to you? IDIOT.

Of course, the sad thing is that he finally seems to believe her that he's her ultimate choice, and they get ripped apart. *wibbles*

There are two levers and two magnaclamps. If the Doctor intended to do this by himself, then why did he bring two magnaclamps, and how was he intending to handle both levers? And then, of course, Pete jumps back just in time to stop Rose from falling into the Void--and even then, rather than them getting pulled in, they stand for a few seconds while Rose has one last look at the Doctor. *facepalms*

The wall scene. Wah. They are so broken. *more wibbles*

How does the Doctor reach Rose in dreams from across the Void? Seriously, how?

He's burning up a sun just to say goodbye. Oh, Doctor. And they can't even touch! That's almost the cruelest part of that scene.

When she mentions the baby and he asks if it's hers, that is not the face and voice of a man who thinks the woman he loves is pregnant with someone else's child. It's just not. This is why I'm not sure if they were shagging prior to these episodes. Mostly I think not, but then I just remember his face and voice right here, and then I don't know.

I wonder how long it's been since Canary Wharf? Four months keeps popping up in fic, but I've been listening specifically for that, and the only thing we know is that Jackie is three months along. And I really don't want it to have been only four months, because I want Jackie and alt!Pete to really get to know each other before having the kid (each other, not just assuming they're like their alt!selves), and before Rose being able to call him Dad.

Being unable to touch is the second-cruelest thing about this scene. The first is, of course, running out of time. Both of those things are just so, so ironic. These are people who thrive on touching each other, and they can't. The Doctor is a Time Lord, and he runs out of time. Wah. It's a very good thing Rose is coming back in S4, and that that was planned, because seriously, that so-called goodbye scene had absolutely no closure, and conspiciously lacked a goodbye.

DONNA'S APPEARANCE RUINS THE MOOD. I like Donna, and I'm looking forward to her being the S4 companion, but that was NOT the right time to introduce her.

Because I can't just end this post on woe...have a picture of David Tennant's smile, because it makes everything better! :D

Now it's late and this is long and I really need to go to bed, so I'll shut up. :p

They so are! :D I can't think of another show where the two leads were so entirely flirty in just a single episode. :D

I'm with you on the whole baby thing. I can't honestly believe they shagged, but there's just something in his tone of voice, just as he says that. The Doctor's never exactly been "yay, Rose and other men", has he? And even though I could buy him being happy for her having a baby, his voice is just so soft. GAH. I need to stop thinking about those episodes.

He just sounds so tender there, you know? While I do think he could be happy for her having a baby, I don't think he could sound so tender (especially right after being told) if he doesn't think that it's his. And this just...screws with everything! If not for that, I'd definitely assume there was no shagging, but I just really have no other explanation for how he looks and sounds. And even then I keep going back and forth on it.

Maybe it's been so long he's forgotten that having sex means babies.

Doctor: You're not...?
Rose: Er... no. Why would I be?
Doctor: I thought, you know, the two of us...
Rose: You do know it takes more than happy thoughts to have kids, right?
Doctor: Does it?

See, and it was that scene more then anything else that clinched it for me that they absolutely WERE shagging (whether or not it happened in the TARDIS is up to debate ;-P) I'm not sure exactly of the WHEN it started, but I've rewatched that scene many times and there is just NO WAY he thinks that she is pregnant with some else's child. Just, just no. I'd love to see the stage directions for that scene, honestly, as I'm certain it was meant to make us go "wuh!?" But they way that both DT and BP pull it off, combined with the fact that we know from RTD, CE, DT, BP, and others that these two WERE in love with one another (as if we couldn't tell from the show itself ;-P) leads me to no other possible conclusion.

You need to start posting your fic here, and post about the show, because I AM ALL CAUGHT UP AND NOT AFRAID OF SPOILERS ANYMORE.

Really, the flirting is the ONLY reason to watch Fear Her -- although having seen season 3 now, that line that you mentioned... wow. Loneliness really was killing him in s3. I mean, he went from angryrageyragey to practically suicidal (well, if you choose not to completely ignore the stupid-ass Dalek two-parter) to desperate to sad and caged, and all the way back to desperate... and you KNOW that if Rose had been there, he would've been okay. Although, if Rose had stayed, we never would've gotten to see those absolutely fascinating darker sides to his character....

Doesn't make it any less painful though. They were just so good for each other. I hope they don't fuck it up when she comes back.

Heh, maybe I will. All fic written in the future, at least. The DW fic I've written to date is all on my website, though, including ones you might have skipped 'cause of S3, so you can read those there, if you like. Also, there will definitely be more posts about the show. :D

I am so convinced that S3 would have been totally different if he hadn't lost Rose. I keep coming across S3 rewrites with Rose where things are pretty much the same, and I'm like...did you even really think about this? For instance, people like to do rewrites of Human Nature/Family of Blood with Rose there instead of Martha, and I admit it's an interesting idea, and that the actual episodes were amazing...but I seriously don't think Rose would have let him become human in the first place, or that he really would have wanted to. (I think one of the main reasons he did was because he was trying to escape his pain. So tragic that he just ended up with more!)

God, I'm so scared of her return. I know Russell T Davies is a definite D/R shipper, but he's been so into torturing the Doctor lately, and he can be sorta hit-and-miss on his scripts. (Parting of the Ways was so brilliant...and Last of the Time Lords was so not.) Part of me wants to trust him because he's a shipper, but it could so easily get fucked up...

Allll righty, then, I've officially read all of your DW fic. GIVE ME MORE PLEASE. Your stories are just so short and simple and sweet, they're like little bits of candy! And oh, do I love my candy. :)

I definitely liked your take on Rose in HN/FoB -- your theory reminded me of a Phantom fic I did a while ago. So many fans were like "Well, if Christine were REALLY smart, she would have stayed with Erik!" -- and I'm like... no. If Christine were REALLY smart, way back at the beginning of the story, she'd've said "Dude, stop watching me in my dressing room, you perv," and gotten her room switched. Heh.

But that story needed to happen, and you're right, I don't think it would've happened with Rose there. But it needed to happen. I'm a sadistic bitch, and it was amazing to see just how deep his hurt goes. (So sad that it's happy! I'm so DEEP!)

I know exactly what you mean about Rose's return, and after s3, I completely get why everyone's so torn about it. I'm on pins and needles....

I was going to add some squee to your "Fear Her" squee (omg, IloveFearHersomuch!), but this went and depressed me:

Yes, Rose really needs to come back. Otherwise, DD is just way too depressing an ending.

Heh. I was thinking as I was making this post that maybe I should separate Fear Her from AoG/DD, but I was already in the middle of AoG and figured I might as well finish. But yes, FH is so full of squee, and I'm totally just about to watch it again. :D

I'm so happy Rose is returning! Except nervous too, because it could so easily get screwed up so much that I might look back on Doomsday as getting off lightly... *shudders*

The only way I can explain this is through the wibbly-wobblyness of time. Meaning, that the Doctor did something to fix things that we will never see so that Pete could come back and get Rose before she fell in the void. Otherwise, this makes no sense.

How does the Doctor reach Rose in dreams from across the Void? Seriously, how?

This is one of those things that makes me so happy to think about. Just imagine how close these two must of been for him to be able to make a psychic connection to her through a small gap in the universes like that. I mean, I assume that her Bad Wolf connection to the TARDIS played a big role in it, but you figure there had to have been more then just that for him to be able to contact her from so far away, and then to be able to project himself to her, and her to him across the void like that. Pretty emotionally powerful stuff. I kind of like to assume that these two had some kind of mind-melded type thing in the past, which is how she got her memories back from when she held the Time Vortex.

DONNA'S APPEARANCE RUINS THE MOOD. I like Donna, and I'm looking forward to her being the S4 companion, but that was NOT the right time to introduce her.
Agreed. I really enjoyed Donna, but I think that I would have rather scene them end on him wandering around the console alone. it would have had a hell of an emotional impact. But, given how emotionally charged Series 3 ended up being, I can kind of forgive them for this.

Great set of reviews!

Yeah, I've read a few reunion fics where the Doctor did something to fix it, but I think canon is Doing Something Wrong when we need fic in order for things to make sense. :p

Yeah, the only way I can make sense of it (across universes!) is if they had some sort of very strong mental bond. Totally an idea I like, but also really the only way that makes sense.

I love you. I know I don't know you, but I do. I am so freaking excited for S4, and this is perfect! My thoughts follow the same patterns as you do, but I think most D/R shippers have similar things on the brain with these episodes.

DALEK/CYBERMAN BITCHFIGHT - man, no matter how miserable Doomsday makes me, this part always makes me laugh. That, and the Doctor's A4 flag of surrender.
