It's been two weeks since my last period. TWO WEEKS. And I'm not in a dorm with forty other girls anymore; hell, I'm the only female in the house, so I can't be synchronizing with anyone.
So WHY THE HELL AM I BLEEDING AGAIN?
...I think I'd better avoid my housemates (well, more than my usual hermit routine) for the next few days. They're nice boys, and I don't want to scare them, even if I want to hit them right now because they don't menstruate and don't understand.
*sigh* You know, in times like these, I really wish that I could like chocolate, or at least that the mere smell of it didn't make me feel nauseated. This would definitely be a chocolate situation.

Date: 2006-09-10 11:10 am (UTC)Blargh. Bleeding is never nice! Hope you're not in too much pain as well.
However, you shouldn't worry too much, especially if it's the only time it ever happened to you. If it feels lighter than a normal period and stops after more or less one day (spotting), it's likely to be ovulation bleeding and happens totally normally in some women.
If it feels like a real period (several days, heavier, red bleeding) or even heavier than a normal period it could look like an anovulatory cycle followed by privation bleeding : you didn't ovulate, but the amount of estrogens you produced changed your uterus lining (endometrium). At more or less 2 weeks from last periods, estrogens stop being produced, there's no progesterone either, and the lack of hormones provokes bleeding. It's also akin to the "periods" occuring during the placebo phase of the pill, which can also happen if you forget to take one or two days of pills. There are a lot of intermediate situations between a normal cycle and an anovulatory one (for examples, no ovulation but some progesterone produced nonetheless, or ovulation but not enough progesterone causing an early period, etc.).
Such irregularities in menstrual cycles are more likely to happen in teenage women until a few years after the first period, which would be your case. Hormonal imbalance can also trigger these situations, and are sometimes linked with being overweight. But even if it's the case or even with older women, it's not considered something to worry about if it's not a recurring situation.
I'm not a doctor though, but I had (and still have) my share of such problems. So if you really want to be reassured or if it happens again, you might want to ask a gynecologist. But once again, even if it's uncomfortable and might even make you crave chocolate, it's probably nothing to worry about.
