rynne: (can't be too fond of books)

Mostly for my own reference--

Reread A Wind in the Door tonight for the first time in years. Found a few passages I can use with KH fic and the Nobodies. Want to put them down here so I don't forget them before I can write fic.

"My dear, this is not like you. With my intellect I see cause for nothing but pessimism and even despair. But I can't settle for what my intellect tells me. That's not all of it."
"What else is there?" Mrs. Murry's voice was low and anguished.
"There are still stars which move in ordered and beautiful rhythm. There are still people in this world who keep promises. Even little ones, like your cooking stew over your Bunsen burner. You may be in the middle of an experiment, but you still remember to feed your family. That's enough to keep my heart optimistic, no matter how pessimistic my mind. And you and I have good enough minds to know how very limited and finite they really are. The naked intellect is an extraordinarily inaccurate instrument."

(Madeleine L'Engle, p87)

"What a strange idea. Love isn't feeling. If it were, I wouldn't be able to love. Cherubim don't have feelings."
"But--"
"Idiot," Proginoskes said, anxiously rather than crossly. "Love isn't how you feel. It's what you do. ..."

(Madeleine L'Engle, p117-118)

Nature abhors a vacuum.

*thinks* There's probably a few more that I thought of as I was reading, but I can't remember where they are now.

But now I'm reminded how much I love Madeleine L'Engle. Such good books...

*sighs dreamily* Oh, how I love Madeline l'Engle. She has always been one of my favorite writers. Beautiful stories, with a very basic profundity that always spoke to me. Thank you for reminding me why I love her so much.

And yes, now that you mention it, there's a lot in her books that could apply to Nobodies. :)

and you just reminded me

That my L'Engle is somewhere in my parents attic, three hours away, and I really really should have copies at my own house, for times like this, when I desparately want to read it.

Gr.

She's awesome. Really, very, truly, awesome. And Proginoskes is one of my favourite multi-eyed, fire-breathing characters ever.
