Sep. 8th, 2008 11:56 pmIn my Intro to Writing Fiction class, we're required to keep a journal, one that the teacher can inspect. When I took this class two years ago with a different teacher, there was the same requirement, but I had difficulty with it--I had no idea what to write about. Knowing that my teacher was going to read it, I didn't feel comfortable repeating things I'd say here, or discussing ideas for fanfic. But now I'm having no such difficulties, which is a great relief. I just finished writing a mini-essay/rant about how fantasy can be literary, which is not the kind of thing I'd post here since I'm pretty sure I'd be preaching to the choir. :p
I'm actually very happy with my classes. They are not necessarily the most interesting, and today I had difficulty staying awake (it's totally not fair that I can go to bed at a reasonable time, in full expectation of being able to get at least eight hours before my alarm is set to go off, and then just wake up too early and be unable to get back to sleep), but I am rather in love with my schedule. It's very full on the days I have classes--basically 10am to 4pm, with the noon hour for lunch--but I only have classes three days a week, and not on any subsequent days. Before the semester started I was a bit apprehensive about having such an intensive schedule on Monday-Wednesday-Friday and then nothing on Tuesday-Thursday, knowing how lazy I can be and that I might feel inclined to indulge such laziness by not doing work. Now, however, I'm very glad of the schedule. I will always have a day to relax between classes and plenty of time to complete my work, and my class days are not actually that intensive.
So I'm content with my classes, and I'm content with the interpersonal side as well. All of the friends I invited to my birthday have agreed to come, I've been having conversations with a girl in one of my classes who shares my love for an obscure book series, and clubs and activities are starting up soon, where I can meet more people there.
So, though I'm getting quite tired and will go to bed soon, I am still just very happy right now. :D
