year end fic meme
Dec. 30th, 2005 10:16 pmSeveral things:
My mom thinks it's v. cool that I write fanfic, and told me to keep doing it. :D I love my mom.
Speaking of fanfic, I posted Princess Bride fic a couple days ago (Westley and the Dread Pirate Roberts), and Star Wars fic last night. The SW fic I just posted to
fanfic100, and is Luke&Leia twinfic, set during RotJ, with no knowledge beyond movies needed to understand. Check them out? (Btw, I've done 6/100 for
fanfic100 now. Anyone interested in reading any of them can go look at my table here.)
Also speaking of fic stuff, here's my year-end round-up, now that I probably will not write more fic the rest of 2005 (all one day of it). I wasn't as prolific this year as I was last year, in terms of how many fics I wrote at least, so there'll be a lot of repeats. But hey, it's a chance to ramble about my fics, so why pass this meme up?
Favorites of the batch: Turnabout (The Paradise Found Remix) (Remus/Sirius, for
remixredux), That Old Bookshop (HP/GO, for
crossover_hp), and Feet on the Ground (SW chaptered, Luke-Vader). I just loved all three of those, and still do, months after I finished them.
Best of the Batch: "That Old Bookshop", "Feet on the Ground", and Hit the Ground (SW, Dark!Luke/Mara).
Most Underappreciated by the Universe: Well, I was very happy with "Turnabout", and was sad that it didn't get as much feedback as I'd hoped. I'm also a bit sad that not many review my SW fics on LJ, but I post on other sites and get reviews there, so I can't quite count those as being underappreciated. I'd love more feedback for "Feet on the Ground", but I've not finished posting that yet, but hopefully I'll gain more readers as I post more chapters. Otherwise, while I could always go for more reviews on pretty much anything I write, I'm happy with the responses I've gotten.
Most Fun to Write: "Feet on the Ground", I think. Which is sorta funny, because it's not a fun fic, really, not light-hearted or anything, except in very few bits. But I found out how much fun it is to write political intrigue, and chaptered things where you have to build everything up, and the romance that I've always loved to write, and I just had a blast with it. The only annoying thing is that I can't post my favorite chapters yet because they're not done being betad. :p
Sexiest fic: Considering I wrote very little high-rated stuff this year, I don't have much choice, so therefore probably Names (Remus/Sirius). It's very short, but I rather like it.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic: Nothing here. :p I was very vanilla this year--I can't even point to my Lucius/Squid drabble, because that was last year. Pretty much anything I could point to was last year, including the only noncon I've written. Maybe next year I'll be more perverted, especially since I've got a SW plot bunny that won't leave me alone (that's Luke/Han, Luke/Leia, Han/Leia, Luke/Han/Leia triangle/threesome)...
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Here's to You (Luke/Mara). It's not a fic, per se--it's actually a lot of 100-word drabbles; there's more than fifty right now. But 100 words is so short, and that I'm limiting myself to snapshots of only 100 words means that I really have to think about the characters.
Hardest fic to do: Hmmm. I think it was probably my
shackinup_sesa fic, for a variety of reasons, including that it'd been months since I wrote R/S. But I'll come back to this after the authors are revealed and talk more.
Biggest disappointment: I don't know. I'm not really disappointed in anything I've written this year; I even ended up liking the
shackinup_sesa fic, however hard it was to write. Maybe Walking the Sky (Luke-Vader), in that, looking back on it now, the characterization and plot aren't as tight as I'd like. But it was my very first Star Wars fic, so I'll be lenient on it. :p
Biggest surprise: Hmmm. I don't know. Maybe "That Old Bookshop". It was a crossover, and only the second time I'd really written Hermione, and I'm sorta surprised both at how well it turned out and that people liked it so much. And it was sorta strange to write Crowley and Aziraphale from the point of view of a human who doesn't know what they are and thinks they're human too. I liked it more than I thought I would.
And for a few numerical totals:
87,000 words of complete fic
51,000 incomplete fic, being revised (this was for NaNo, and I've already gotten rid of ~10,000 words of crap, but I did write it, so I'm counting it)
138,000 words total this year
Not that much compared to some (*looks at
musesfool*), but it's a lot to me, and I'm both awed and happy with how much I managed to write.
Also, something that has nothing to do with fic but is actually more important: I registered to vote yesterday. I'm now an officially registered Democrat who can vote in upcoming elections. Hurrah! :D
