OMG AM HOME FOR A MONTH NOW!

Also, my parents are awesome. Two different conversations:

(In the airport, waiting for my bags to come)
MOM: I want to go see movies soon. Are there any you want to see?
ME: Narnia!
MOM: I want to see that too!
ME: Oh, and Memoirs of a Geisha!
MOM: Me too! I love that book.
ME: I also want to see Brokeback Mountain.
MOM: So do I. I've heard good things about it.

So sometime soon, I will be seeing, among other things, a movie about gay cowboys with my mother. :D

(After dinner)
ME: *comes out to the living room, with my computer power cord that has the fraying protective coating* I think I need to get a new power cord.
MOM: Why don't we just get you a new laptop?
ME: Um, mine still works fine, even if it's a bit slow...
DAD: Well, it is four or five years old now. We can get you a new one.
MOM: Think about it.

So...I'm thinking about it. :p Do any of you have any particular recommendations for laptop models? I don't think I need anything in particular for college, save one that does the usual computer stuff like write documents, print, and go on the internet. *g*

I still feel a bit bemused that my parents had to convince me to let them buy me a new laptop--this isn't the first conversation we've had about it, 'cause my twin got a new one for graduation, and my parents offered to get me one then too.

Though still, my computer does work just fine, even if I should probably get a new power cord...

Anyway, am finally home again with all my 600+ books, as opposed to the fifty or so I had up there, and I'm pretty tired, so I'm going to read and go to bed (relatively) early. :)

I recommend an iBook. If you want to go the mac route. Which I also recommend. XP (but yes I know that is personal preference.)

LOL, I'd go for a new one :) I'm having the same debate right now (though it's with my own bank account... I did ask for a new battery for this one for christmas, though.) While it works fine, it's 4 years old, the hard drive is pretty much full, it over heats a lot, and I've just discovered the CD burner is dying (in addition to being slow compared to our new desktop and the computers I use at work).

Welcome home!

That's really nice of your parents. Hmm... I'm quite happy with my iBook G4. There are probably newer, better models, but after a year and a half, I don't miss my PC at all.

Hrm...laptops, laptops.

Personally, Sony's are pretty good. Dells are too if you don't opt for the cheapest one (but Dell likes to bundle software liek whoa :|). Umm, yeah.

I've always wanted a Sony since they've always been pretty reliable for me. Unfortunately, it's hard to find one that's under $1200. Reliability costs an arm and a leg, folks. :P

My new Sony Vaio is great. I like the portability of my notebook.

But for laptops... mine is an HP (woo-hoo, Hewlett-Packard, not Harry Potter this time) and I like it and their tech support.

We should go see those movies! I really want to see them all and Syriana and Munich.

Aw, your mom's so nice. My mom's all, "...Movies? What's that you speak of?"

Hmm, my IBM ThinkPad is extremely fast and reliable. Windows XP, although I have a soft spot for Macs, too.

I have used HP computers since I got my desktop when I was thirteen. They have really good tech support and are very reliable computers to have (the desktop is still in really quality condition, five years later).
