I'm totally wondering right now if time of day has anything to do with the amount of reviews received on a fic. Because normally (lately, at least) I post fic late at night, or in the wee hours of the morning, and get a fair amount of reviews, but when I posted something yesterday afternoon, I barely got anything. Which has actually held true throughout most of my fandom career, now that I think about it--I've always gotten more feedback on things I've posted at night, as opposed to in the afternoon.

(And now the girl in me who's taken two years of statistics and a semester of psychology almost wants to do a study, to find out if there really is any correlation, but for one thing, my teachers have bleated at me that correlation does not imply causation, and for another, it's too much work to figure out how to structure such a study. :p)

Is it something about the fic/update being there when you log on for the first time, and you're just less likely to check for new fics/updates throughout the day? Hmmm...

Anyway, in case you missed it (and maybe it being late night right now as I post this will help), I posted the first chapter of Feet on the Ground yesterday. And I totally love this fic. I'm very proud of pretty much the entire thing, all 40,000 words of it, so if y'all would read and let me know what you think, I'd really appreciate it. :)

[livejournal.com profile] theferret posted once about how to get the most comments on an entry, and he observed that posting in the morning was the best for receiving comments. I wish I could find the post, but he's a quite prolific poster, and I couldn't find it in his memories.

Hmmm...maybe. Probably wouldn't work for me, though, since I try not to be up in the mornings, and when I am, it's because I have to be, and I'm not doing anything fun like LJ. Thanks for the advice though.

Oh, yes, there's a whole science to posting! In the UK, the best time to post is about 7 in the evening, when you get the English people after work and the American ones awake and on LJ. You also get US comments overnight... Weekend afternoons are unpredictable, but Sunday night is usually a good time. Of course, all this depends on many variables, like updates of Shoebox Project, LJ's technical status, and so on, plus sheer, bloody luck.

Ahaha. I'm a good eight hours behind the UK, and am rarely on the internet at 7pm GMT. I'll keep Sunday night in mind, though often I get fics/chapters back on other days, and am just too damn impatient to wait... ;)

Weekends and holidays are generally bad for stories - Sunday evenings/nights are good, nights when there are no first run fannish shows are good, or weekdays, late in the afternoon.

Ohh, I hadn't even thought about the holidays bit, though that makes sense. :) I'll keep it in mind next time I post something.

I think this time of year is generally bad for receiving comments, and weekends are never good. People are struggling to finish projects, school work, holiday exchange stuff, other stuff...

I try to post on weekday mornings.

That makes sense. I mostly post at night, since that's (ironically) when I'm most awake. I rarely post in the morning, unless it's so late that it's early. I hate using mornings for anything other than sleep, and even when I have to get up and do stuff, I still tend to sleep in until I don't have time to do anything more than get ready and leave.
