two unrelated things
Apr. 7th, 2005 08:56 pmFirst thing, and something that makes me SAD: My favorite teacher, my Pacific Rim and previously my AP European History teacher, says that the day John Lennon was shot should be declared a national holiday.
I do not understand how so intelligent a man can hate the Beatles so much. *goes to watch
lykaios's John/Paul icon*
Second thing:
QUESTION: Why do people think that having errors in their summaries will make me want to read their fics?

Date: 2005-04-07 09:38 pm (UTC)Grammar and spelling errors. Honestly, the summary's one of the first things readers see, so it'd only seem logical that people use proper English...

Date: 2005-04-07 10:29 pm (UTC)I asked that of a fangirl once. Her answer ran something like this:
"Well, it's not like the summary matters. People don't read them. They just go for their favorite authors. And you know, you don't want to be TOO picky and look all elitist and junk, like you think you're so much better than everyone else. And besides, it's not like you're doing it for school. You can be sloppy if you want to, and no one will really care. And if you want to post to an archive or something, well, they have mods and proofreaders, and it's not like YOU'LL have to fix it."

Crimes against the English language! No one will really care? *whimpers* Oh, my poor language, what people do to you...
I want to tell this person that the mods and proofreaders at archives are far more willing to send her fic back for editing than to do it themselves. It's not like we care about her fic.

Date: 2005-04-08 05:06 am (UTC)2. Along with badly written, mistake-ridden summaries, my biggest question is: Why do people think that writers are going to pay attention to reviews that are filled with mistakes and contain no capital letters or complete sentences?

Date: 2005-04-10 10:03 pm (UTC)Hah, I've got some of those kind of reviews on my own long-ass fic, though I just tend to ignore them.
