Apr. 4th, 2005 11:09 pmToday was a surprisingly good day. I mean, aside from getting only like four and a half hours of sleep, and taking a test on a book I only got a third of the way through (hurrah for SparkNotes!), I'm actually in a fairly good mood.
After months of silence since the initial acceptance letter, Puget Sound is finally sending me stuff! And I applied to be in their Humanities program, and made it! :D
And I got to listen to Billy Collins read some of his poetry. Billy Collins, US Poet Laureate for 2001-2003, came to Reno to read some of his poetry, and I got to hear him.
But the best thing of all, I get to sleep in tomorrow and Wednesday! There's testing for the sophomores and juniors, so they've got to go to school at regular time, and seniors and freshmen come at 10:45. That's like, nearly four hours after my first class normally starts. Yessssssss!
Also...listening to Billy Collins inspired me to write some poetry of my own...
We were pressed against each other,
Mouths, flush and wet, moving,
And I knew.
Our chests pressed together,
Our thighs, our lips,
Our hands and arms and legs and feet
Tangled,
And I knew.
She was warm against me,
So warm,
And that is one of my favorite things:
The warmth of another person
Sharing your own heat,
And I am not cold.
Do you love me, my girl?
Do your eyes and heart light up
When they see me walking down the street,
Whistling off-tune and swinging
A brown paper bag full of groceries?
When you kiss me,
Does your skin tingle
And your hair stand on end
The way that mine does?
You give me goosebumps,
And I love it when
You think I’m cold
And try to warm me up.
What about the ice cream on your lips
From the quart I pulled from my brown paper bag?
Does it give you a thrill to share the taste with me
Giving and giving until our lips bruise?
And then you pull back and your lips are swollen
And red as apples are,
Or maybe strawberries, because
It was strawberry ice cream, and
I do so love the taste of
Strawberry.
