You know, all those people who supposedly like Snape because they think Alan Rickman is sexy?

I don't get it.

Not because he's like at least thirty years older than I am (I <33 David Bowie), but...one word.

Dogma.

Watching Alan Rickman play someone with no dick just cuts the sexy factor for me, you know?

(For those of you who haven't seen Dogma, it's not much of a spoiler. Has absolutely no bearing on the plot. Just trivia, really.)

Aharh. XD I still think he's sexy, even without the dick. I even think he's sexy in Galaxy Quest with the alien headrubber. ...but then again for me its like 70% voice. Mmm... Alan... :3

lol well Snape isn't supossed to look sexy, but he is sexy so yeah I can see why some would think that about Alan.

He's still sexy in Dogma. He's still got the attitude and the voice and... Yeah. The genitalia (or lack thereof) was just sort of gratuitous, so I tend to block it out. And! He was Colonel Brandon. And that alien in Galaxy Quest. Yay.

That said, I get liking Snape. (Not finding him sexy or desireable. Just finding him interesting as a character.) I get liking Alan Rickman. I get liking Alan Rickman as Snape. I don't get liking liking Snape or finding him sexy in the books because he is played by Alan Rickman. It's just... Huh?

Oh, I like Rickman in Dogma too. I like Rickman in general, and I find Snape interesting. I just can't find him sexy, which is partly because when I look at a picture of him as Snape, him as Metatron pops into my head, and it's hard not to think of the lack of genitalia then. :p

I don't get the Alan Rickman love, myself. I mean, I live in the house with someone who's fond of him as an actor, so I had all kinds of exposure. I didn't see Dogma, but still. I've known for years that he does nothing for me, and seeing him as Snape does not reverse the absolute hatred I have for the character.

At worst, it's that. At best, it's like "eh".

I like Snape because he's a fascinating character. I think Alan Rickman plays him well, but I don't like Snape because of how's played in the movies but because of how he's written in the books.

My love of Alan Rickman is a totally separate issue. :-) I think he's a brilliant actor, master of nuance, especially after having seen him on Broadway. If you watch some of his movies closely you'll find that he's very good at portraying something without having spoken or changed expression. Amanda and I have even rewound movies to watch scenes again, saying, "How did he do that?", only to discover that he'd made almost imperceptible movements of his facial expressions.

He's funny, too. Even when he's not onstage or onscreen. He pays attention to his fans and won't turn anyone away from a performance without an autograph, at least not in my experience.

And the voice, definitely the voice!

My friend Joan is obsessed with Rickman!Snape. We all make fun of her because of it. "Joan! Dogma! SNAPE HAS NO PENIS!"

She gives us contemptous looks.

Sense and Sensibility!Rickman more than makes up for Dogma!Rickman... he's so lovely in that movie.
