[livejournal.com profile] idroppedarice is conducting a slash survey for one of her classes in school. Go vote and answer questions for her! Especially any of you males who read this, as so far all the people who have answered are female, and variety is the spice of life, eh?

Anyway, happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] fluffyllama! :D

And happy birthday to my mother, who turned fifty-one today. We went out to a buffet for dinner and so I am absolutely stuffed.

Okay, have decided that am going to write the R/S with unaccepting!James story. But don't expect it for awhile, as it looks to be very, very long. Oi. Hope I don't end up stealing too many ideas from [livejournal.com profile] mapletide or [livejournal.com profile] xellas for their stories with unaccepting!James, but my brain can barely wrap around the idea (at first I think James wasn't peachy about it, cuz yeah, growing up in the seventies, homosexuality = Not Good And Possibly Disgusting and so on, but that he grew to accept it). But yeah. Will write that after I finish [livejournal.com profile] _immortalis's birthday desk!sex, [livejournal.com profile] prettyveela's Snape/Lily (which is so almost done), and [livejournal.com profile] sincelastjuly's Percy/Ginny (which I have an idea for, though I have no idea how I'm going to make the characterizations work with incest, but I will try).

The library I work at has no Neil Gaiman books. :O I don't know what is up with that, but I was at work today and I figured that since I was there I might as well get out Sandman or something, but there was no Neil Gaiman books. Also, very few Terry Pratchett books. Like, three Discworld, all of which I had read before. Bah.

I want to be in Santa Cruz. Usually we're there in this week every year, but this year I have to wait another week and a half for our house and our beach and the boardwalk and shopping in Capitola...

Okay, enough whining :D. And back to work, sigh...

Dude, growing up in the seventies, homosexuality = Not Good And Possibly Disgusting and so on??

Um, no. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the seventies the time of peace and protest? Gay sex was a huge thing in the seventies, especially between guys. That's why girls were at such high risk for STDs then, because of jail sodomy and such, then guys who had STDs passing them to both girls and guys... It was a huge problem (not the gayness, the STDs). And though obviously not everyone was into homosexuality, and certainly the older generations weren't too up on it, but a person growing up in the seventies would likely not only be accepting of homosexuality, but would be participating in sex with other guys himself (obviously there were exceptions even for that generation, but in general...you know what I mean).

In England, it was illegal. Men under 21 caught even kissing or something in public (which included hotel rooms and apartments, since the landlords had keys) could be made to register as sex offenders, and if one was under sixteen and one older, the older one could have been thrown in jail. The law was changed in 1994 so that the homosexual age of consent was 18, and again in 2001 to sixteen, but in the seventies, it was considered a Bad Thing.
