Today [livejournal.com profile] velesia came over and we watched Doctor Who, The Doctor's Daughter through Midnight. Which means that yes, we did watch Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.

It was...not as bad as I was expecting it to be. Not the episodes, of course--they were still complete crap--but watching them again. I'd wanted to keep quiet when watching them, though of course that didn't last long because too often I just couldn't hold back my disgust, but [livejournal.com profile] velesia was also expounding on how this and that didn't make sense. There were some things I had to say "wait and see" to because they later would make sense, but many that didn't. But she didn't like the episodes and she didn't like River Song, so if I had to watch these episodes again, at least I got to do them with someone who understood why I was complaining. XD

So we've finished through Midnight, which means that what's left is Turn Left, The Stolen Earth, and Journey's End. Eeep. I am still...apprehensive about watching JE again. So what if it's been half a year since I saw the episode? XD I think it's going to be just as difficult to watch as SitL/FotD, in its own way.

On the other hand, The Unicorn and the Wasp was even more fun than I'd remembered. :D

In non-DW news, I finally got my grades for last semester, with two As and two B+s. Whoo! Best grades I've gotten in all my time at college. I think the time off really helped. :D

Yes, that is one of the (many) frustrating things about the episode. It really feels like no one went through and said... "hey, you never bother explaining x,y,z... what was up with those?"

It really feels like a shoddy first draft and it makes me want to kick Moffat on an entirely different level than the rest of his stuff because he can write better than this. He may not be able to write less sexist than this, but he can write better. It's like when he found out that he was going to be showrunner, he went "well, guess I don't need to bother cleaning up the story, I've got celebrating to do!"

Congrats on the good grades! You're a winner. I'm glad you're able to get through those episodes without exploding with anger, because I'm really looking forward to watching Season 4 with you once we're back at school! I'll prepare myself for lots of seething and complaining, though. :)

Yes. It's a shoddy first draft, full of things that should have been either excised or refined. They could have been good episodes--I was hoping they were, going into them, because even though I'd hated GitF I know Moffat was capable of writing better.

This is another reason I don't like him--it offends me a bit that he doesn't care enough to make sure his writing is the best that it can be. I'm not a even a professional, but I get the feeling that I care--and honestly care, not just appreciate my own conceit--about my writing more than he does. Even when I post things unbetad, I won't post anything that doesn't make internal sense and is as polished as my own eyes can make it, and it doesn't seem like Moffat is even willing to take the time to do that.

Hee, thanks! It's such a great feeling, knowing that I can actually succeed at this school. :D

Hah. I'm looking forward to watching S4 with you, though of course some episodes more than others. :p I will try very hard not to seethe too much! XD
