I also 'ship couples that I really and truly believe would make each other happy. Because... I fall a bit in love with the characters on the shows that I watch (if I don't love the characters enough, I can't love the show). I want them to be happy. Rose and the Doctor very obviously make each other happy. And they even got to be canon (as you mention, so many shows believe that happy = boring and so bring in tons of angst).
If believing that two people who make each other happy make for a good couple puts me in the minority, then I'm fine being there (I don't believe that it does, though, excepting certain online communities). They make each other happy when they're together. They help other people and save worlds. Seriously, where is the bad?
