Jul. 17th, 2008 09:30 pmI want to say I'll never stay away from the internet for four days again, because skip=600 is sorta ridiculous (especially when I deliberately keep my flist smallish), except that it was rather relaxing. :p I kept thinking about all the fic I was missing, but getting away from the discussion was great.
This is sorta funny, because I pretty obviously love metaing about things, but I think I've hit saturation point. On other people's meta, at least, which I normally find interesting. But I think Journey's End was just so controversial that it's exhausting. I might only read people I already know agree with me, which feels a bit limiting, but is less likely to make me feel depressed and/or insulted.
I hope to get to comments soon, but thinking of replying to a bunch of them just still feels tiring, so it might take me a bit longer.
A few things about my trip:
--Zion National Park is gorgeous. I totally regret forgetting to bring a camera to Vegas, because I would have liked to take pictures. It was just really awesome, and the kind of place that could actually make me appreciate deserts. :D
--It stormed both days we wanted to spend at the pool. That was not fair. :p
--The best deterrent to drinking is actually getting drunk. I've never been drunk before, so that was a bit of an experience--and I'm definitely glad to know my limits (it was either the seventh or the eighth glass of wine, though I had nine total XD). Being drunk was fun when I was stationary and talking to my friend and vaguely watching the movie we'd put on, but it was not fun when I had to stand up and go to bed, since remaining upright in the shower was sort of an adventure, and my head kept spinning once I finally collapsed into bed. No hangover the next morning, though, but I'm not sure if I just didn't drink enough for one, because I didn't really drink much water that night.
So, my first time drunk wasn't bad (definitely not the horror story my friend had), but it did put me off drinking enough to get drunk again. I'm not going to complain. :p
In writing/DW news, I did manage to start one of the fics I was talking about, though I'm sorta iffy on chapter length. I like long chapters--with Feet on the Ground and Burnt by the Sun, the average is about 5000 words, which I think is just right, because I love being able to sink my teeth into a chapter, rather than barely beginning to read it before it's over. I am probably one of the few people who will never complain about chapters in excess of 20,000 words, because in terms of reading, I seriously think the longer the better. And in terms of writing, I dislike the idea of a chapter less than at least 3000 words. For this particular fic, though, I'm not sure how long I can stretch the chapters before they just feel padded, since they seem to not be ending up very long, but are still discrete.
So, have a poll. I don't think this will affect chapter length in my story, but I'm curious.

In other fic-writing news, this morning I got this awesome idea for a fic that's Eight/Rose and Nine/Rose, which happies me. I have a rather irrational love for Eight/Rose, but there's sadly not that much of it around. And it's nice to have an idea for Nine/Rose, since in canon I have difficulty thinking of a place to insert anything actually happening between them. XD But this fic is decidedly AU, which neatly takes care of that.
And this is not so much fic, but my new OT3 in DW is so totally Ten/Rose/Ten. My old OT3 was Nine/Rose/Ten, of which I am still quite fond, and which I would totally read any time I could find anything good for it, but Ten/Rose/Ten is just so much easier to manage. It only takes a slight AU of Journey's End, rather than requiring timey-wimey (please, someone tell me a better term for that; my brain is mush and can't think of one for itself) stuff that Nine will eventually have to forget anyway. Sigh. I have basically been eating up the occasional Ten/Rose/Ten fic that's popped up since the finale, but my appetite for this is ever-increasing. :D
Now I'm going to shut up and go watch more Six. XD

Date: 2008-07-18 08:18 am (UTC)I sort of dropped out of DW fandom half way through season three. I nowhere near love the show as much as I used to, which actually made season four, if not season three, easier for me. I care so much less about the characters on screen, and TBH, I often think that andom expects too much from the writers/producers/actors of a low-budget show that's for kids, but has extra bonuses for the older members.
I've analysed the characters so well in my head that I find I know them inside out, and then if/when I watch something on the screen that doesn't compute, or is full of plot holes, or is DO NOT WANT I... well, I used to get really upset about it and agonise over it for days, but I just don't care enough to be bothered now. The characters I want, the characters I fell for, are still safely locked up in my head, and no one's taking those from me, especially not if I keep writing.
Anyway, sorry, I didn't mean the ramble. Mostly I commented due to the OT3 because OMG I'M RIGHT THERE WITH YOU.
Threesome relatinships were never something I went for, but somehow Nine/Rose/Ten (and no Ten/Rose/Ten) is different, and very hot :P Haha, when she's standing between at Bad Wolf Bay, I admit, even the first time I watched it, all I could think about was the Ten/Rose/Ten fics that would spring up. *snigger*. I may very well write one, nce my MARATHON post JE fic is out of the way.
So, er, yes. Just reread your post, and you've never been drunk before? Haha, the first time is always great, especially if you DO find out your limits (: Hurrah, drinkage \o/ And yeah, when you first start drinking, no hangovers, it's a gift. That changes. Trust me. In fact, very often now, I swear I wake up with other people's hangovers, because I don't drink enough to get them xD

Date: 2008-07-23 06:06 am (UTC)I came into DW fandom after VotD, and the character arcs I was seeing at that point got me very excited to see how they would play out. I don't think it's too much to expect that a show have a satisfying character arc, but since satisfying is subjective, I guess that might have happened for some people while still leaving me disappointed. I guess now I will just stick with the characters in my head. XD
Hee! I don't tend to be the biggest fan of threesomes, and when I do like one, it's generally not the most popular (I can't get into Doctor/Rose/Jack, for example), but omg Nine/Rise/Ten and Ten/Rose/Ten are so bloody hot. Right now I'm rather tempted to start a series of Ten/Rose/Ten romantic crackfics. XD What other threesome is better suited for whacky hijinks? *g*

Date: 2008-07-18 06:58 pm (UTC)As for chapter lengths, it's whatever it fits best with, really. But then, I do like fics, even one shots, to be at least 1k because or else I feel cheated!
