I've never actually seen The Green Death, but I've seen a few others with Jo and I do love her to bits.
My feelings on Three/Jo is... complicated. I sort of ship, but at the same time I get parental vibes. It sort of falls into my "he's a Time Lord" category. I see it as being more than just friendship, but completely free of any sexual undertones.
I got the impression from some Classic Who fans that watching the old series would make me less inclined to ship Doctor/Rose. It seems to have had the opposite effect. *g*
I have plenty of Classic Who ships, but the old stuff does nothing to change the relationship between the Doctor and Rose, except providing more info on his past. However, if you started with the classic stuff, I can see why you'd not be so keen on the direction the show was going in now!
