I watched Playthings, so now I'm finally caught up on Supernatural, for the first time ever. :p


Y'know Sammy, I totally get the wanting to build up good karma thing, but having saved lots of people earlier isn't going to help you if you go evil later. Thing is, you can decide yourself what you're going to do--that's what free will is for. And given that the demon seems to be trying to persuade people to do Bad Things (like Scott in Hunted and what's-his-name in Simon Said) rather than possessing them and making them do it, you sorta have an advantage. You know that being psychic boy doesn't mean you're going crazy, and you know not to listen to dudes with yellow eyes. Saving people is good, but you should keep doing it not to build up karma, but rather because you go into a situation and decide that you'd rather save someone than kill them.

Also, making Dean kill you will likely kill him too. That was a bad thing to make him promise.

On the other hand, antiquing! And poking old ladies with sharp sticks! Dean making fun of hungover!Sam! Everyone assuming that they're gay! And creepy dolls!

eta: Almost forgot--Dean telling Susan about Sam's "doll collection" and Sam having to go along with it even though he totally wants Dean to shut up! I loved that. XD

Though speaking of creepy dolls, watching Playthings made me want to watch the X-Files episode Chinga, which is the one written by Stephen King. And ahaha I forgot how much I liked that episode. Had no particular interest in the doll thing, but omg Mulder is such a dork. He may carry a gun and regularly run into worldwide conspiracies, but he's such a dork--and very adorable. :p (And ahahaha that's the episode my "watching porn" icon comes from. XD I just have to use it again, even though I used it last post. :p)

Okay, definitely time to go find good Supernatural icons. And! Sometime I will totally answer comments!

I think though that Sam of all people gets how many shades of grey there are between good and evil, and he knows he and Dean are already moving in the grey area.

Also, the saving thing isn't so much about karma, I think, as it is about guilt. He couldn't save Jess or his mother or his father or Ava, or Max. He's watched too many people he cared about or felt responsible for die and now he tries to compensate for that by saving strangers.

Well, I do get that he was guilty; that was pretty obvious. But he said something about having to save people to stave off his destiny (or something of the sort), and that made me think that he thinks if he does enough good things, he won't go evil, as if there's a direct correlation. He is guilty, and I think that's part of his desire to save people, but not all of it.

So, I had issue with this at first, until I realized. This is EXACTLY the kind of TOTALLY IRRATIONAL rationalization that makes Sam so freaking human. It's actually a brilliant way for the directors to show that undernath it all, he's really just a frightened, very tall, boy.

But yeah, great ep huh?

Oh, I totally agree. I don't have any issues with Sam's rationalization, 'cause he's flawed, tall, and very human, but it does not stop the urge to want to smack him for being stupid. :p

Then again, thinking of his "You're short. And bossy" makes me forgive him. *g* It was a great ep.
