Trying to plan out a schedule for next fall. Have three classes I want down, but trying to find a fourth is made difficult by the times for lots of classes I find interesting clashing with Japanese 301 (for which there is only one time). Have advising tomorrow, though, which is good, as I need to find a fourth class.

Anyway, a poll/discussion inspired by the languishing comments on my journal. :p I mean comments posted in your own journal, not comments you post in someone else's and they reply to.

[Poll #700782]

eta: Oh bother, for that last question I'd meant to also have "more than two weeks" as an answer. Stupid LJ not letting us edit polls.../eta

...I think that's all I'm curious about, right now. Feel free to discuss and ask for clarification or whatever.

I answer easy comments first - jokes about memes and silliness, or if someone has a question, or if they've answered an informational question I have.

Thoughtful stuff takes longer.

Feedback on fic takes longer, 'cause I like to bask for a couple of days before answering.

When I polled about this, two weeks to a month was considered the lifespan of an answerable comment - after that people felt it was weird or outdated or pointess.

I didn't answer some questions because I wanted to explain, and nothing really seemed to fit for some reason. If it's something silly, then I'll answer usually as soon as I find out it's there. If it's something I have to think about, or I'm not sure how to word it, I usually think about it for a while (usually not more than a day, though), and then reply. If whoever and I disagree on something, I almost always let that wait about a day, just so we can both cool off. And, if it's someone I don't know saying something other than "hey I found you through [whatever], let's be interweb friends", I'll let that sit about a day too. (I don't always answer those. Maybe it's snotty of me, but being weird in someone's journal is not always a good first impression.)

I feel like three days is a good cutoff if I'm online every day, and if the entry doesn't have a ridiculously high comment count. If I don't have internet access, then I'll answer whenever I get around to it. Besides, if I don't get around to answering absolutely everything, I usually don't worry about it.

That makes sense. And I remember your poll now, but not the details--do you have a link to it?

All that makes sense. I'm also online every day, but sometimes I just lose track of things I meant to do, and answering comments/emails is often one of those things. *sigh* I didn't use to be so bad about replying to stuff in a timely manner; it's a recent habit I should totally get rid of (...like putting off my essays). I was just curious about other people's habits. :)

It really all depends on my net access. I don't have internet at home, so unless the comment shows up on the days I'm at work, when I can answer everything pretty rapidly, things will always languish one to three days uncommented. The only thing I tend to take longer with are meta/fandom debate responses that need a bit of thought before answering, and are bound to run longer.

About the "other" stuffs... If I have comments that are general crap about real life or anything else under the sun, I'll answer them quickly. Most serious rl stuff is what I wait on so I can really think about what I'm saying.
