Only Time reviews
Chapter eighteen up! After the defeat of Voldemort, Harry is tired. He is offered the chance to rest, relax, and have fun…by going back in time to 1977 and becoming his parents' DADA teacher. But things don't stay relaxing for very long...

Why must people like it so much? Why can't people ignore it so I can forget about it? *wails* My characterizations are horrible and the plot is cliche and the only thing I can think of for chapter nineteen is stupid and the characterizations are horrible!

I think that might be my real problem with continuing this fic--it's been so long since I've updated that since I have, I've grown into some clear views of my own on how to characterize James, Sirius, and Remus (still have no idea how to characterize Harry, though, which is a definite problem as he's one of the POV characters), and I either have to change everyone in Only Time radically to fit those new views, or continue along with the old ones that I can't imagine fitting the characters anymore.

I like this story, though. I've always loved time travel fics, right from the beginning of my foray into my very first fandom years ago, and I like teacher!Harry stories, and MWPP stories (no, really? :p). And I like combining all of those together. That's why I won't abandon this story, completely aside from how many people want to read the climax and ending when I'm the only one who knows what it's going to be (and believe me, I've got a very clear picture of everything that happens from chapter twenty onwards).

But I started this fic when I was still new enough to fandom that I was writing cliched R/S crap as well and had no idea how to characterize anyone, and so went with how I wanted them to be characterized rather than how I might characterize them so that they fit in with what we know of canon. OT!James, OT!Sirius, OT!Harry...they're not JKR's James, Sirius, and Harry, and they're not even mine anymore.

Thing is, I don't know what to do with them anymore. The way I see it, I have several options, which I'm putting together in a poll, and which I'd like your opinions about, please. You don't even have to have read Only Time, I don't think.

[Poll #343191]

Anyone who has an opinion, even if it's just to tell me to get off my ass and finish the fic, please share it. Seeing those reviews on ff.net (thankfully, Schnoogle has a less scary amount of reviews--only approaching four hundred), now into the quadruple-digits...I really need to decide where I'm going with this thing, and it's not fair either to me or to the readers to keep postponing it.

So last night I set my alarm for six am, and when I wake up this morning at that time, the first thing I think is "Hello darkness, my old friend", and have since had The Sounds of Silence stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Not that I mind, as I love Simon and Garfunkle, but the reason I thought those lyrics was because it was still dark when I woke up. And then when I went out to the kitchen for some breakfast and my dad was there eating his, I just blurted out, "THE SUN'S NOT EVEN UP YET!" and he laughed at me.

Nope. Definitely not a morning person here.

In other news, school. It exists again, blast it. And the library computer lab is down this week, so I can't even go online in my nonexistant second or fourth period, which leaves me with roughly an hour and a half of doing completely nothing. I took the time to read Catch-22 and eat (and it is very nice to get a chance to eat before noon, when lunch normally is), but bobdammit, I want my computer time, even if it is a school computer and so therefore I must not look at anything not worksafe. But I have class for roughly three hours and school-sponsored free time for an hour and a half before I go to UNR, which is really pretty good. I think I'm going to like senior year.

Also, Catch-22 is now one of my new favorite books. So. Bloody. Funny. I always love the satire XD. Damn good book.

I got a postcard from [livejournal.com profile] allisonblair from Colorado today. She went there back in May. Delayed post much? *snickers*

More update of the R/S reclist style. Six new links, bringing a new total of 182, and all the new ones have a bright red New! in front of them.

But a rec that I just put on there today (as it was just uploaded today--I read it when I created a review board for the author and coded the fic), but like so much that I have to rec separately to emphasize it:

The Consequences of Being Legally Dead by [livejournal.com profile] damnyellowcap. Funny, funny fic. The Ministry's incompetence soars to new heights in here, though I won't spoil it for you. The summary is: Spontaneous Death Reversal was completely unheard of, at least until this cloudy day in mid-2004 when an eight-year-dead Sirius Black begins banging on the long-ago locked door of the old Department of Mysteries.

Read it. You won't regret it, really.

Erm. Nothing else, I don't think. Should *gag* go to bed relatively soon, as I still must get up at six am tomorrow. *sigh*

ETA: I knew there was something I forgot! Last night during swordfighting we started sparring, and now I am sporting three large bruises on my legs from where Kaiden hit me (though he didn't mean to hit so hard). Who knows something for making bruises feel better? They keep bothering me when I climb stairs, and I have to do rather a lot of that, now that I'm back at school...
