If I needed proof that I should get a new computer...

My laptop wouldn't turn on today. I don't know why, since it worked fine last night. But today, I press the button to turn it on, and the green lights come on, but the monitor doesn't do anything.

Anyone know what's going on, what I could do to fix it, have any advice, etc?

eta: Okay, working now. I unplugged it and looked at it and took the battery out then put it back in, and then it started working fine again. I have no idea why. V. weird.

Eep, hard to say. :O Any other symptoms? Does it sound like it's actually turned on, just not displaying anything?
Could just be a loose connection from the monitor, but that's not always overly straightforward to fix with laptops. :S

It started working after I took the battery out and then put it back in. I'm not sure why, and I don't know why the battery was so important, since I had the laptop plugged into an outlet, but...eh, I'm hardly the most computer-literate person around. :p

Glad it started to work again; my monitor didn't work earlier this year and they had to replace something.

I borrowed a friend's laptop that did something similar. He said that it would just die on occasion and unplugging it and taking out the battery was the only way to fix it. Basically, just deny it any power. He got it checked out and no one knew why it did that, but one day it just didn't wake up. I suggest a new compy fairly soon... and make sure you back up all your files.

Erk. Do you know how long it took for it to die? My files are backed up, but I don't want my computer to die...

In September, when the tech guys at my college got rid of spyware for me. Er. I hope it'll at least last out the spring semester...
