various hbp stuff
Jul. 11th, 2005 04:09 pmOkay, I've been rather Not Around lately, but I'm all caught up on LJ (I think!), and apparently there's all this spoiler and spoiler policy stuff going around, so I might as well.
So! Things you can expect from me regarding HBP:
1. I will get it at midnight and go home and read it, possibly finishing around the time I go to bed normally (meaning, 5/6am), because that's how long it took me to read OotP and HBP is shorter. I will then sleep, because I am going to Rocky Horror on Saturday night (and dude, a weekend with both new HP canon and Rocky Horror is so the best weekend ever) and I want to be awake.
2. If I post thoughts about the book, it will be under an LJ-cut probably marked "Spoilers for HBP", without any embellishments that might clue one in as to what kind of spoilers to expect. I will do this for about a month.
3. Any new fics I write, at least up until my eighteenth birthday (which is exactly two months after HBP) that contain HBP canon will be marked with HBP spoilers.
4. Concerning spoilers out already, I am taking all of them (except one) with a grain of salt.
Anyway, now to discuss some of the spoilers I've heard. Note that comments might also have spoilers.
First of all, the one spoiler that I do believe is that Dumbledore is dead meat. I've thought so ever since GoF when Hagrid said "As long as we've got him, I'm not too worried", because to me that was just obvious foreshadowing that they wouldn't have him. And since he didn't die in OotP, it makes the most sense for him to die in HBP, so that book seven can start out with the wizarding world all panicky and focused on Harry and Harry determined and scared because now he doesn't have Dumbledore to fall back on.
Bill as a werewolf? I doubt it. What's the point? I mean, I'm not JKR and I don't know all the plot points, of course, but we've already got a sympathetic werewolf. Why add another one?
Remus/Tonks I am also doubting, and not just because I love R/S. It's another "what's the point?" thing, really, as well as that I just can't see Tonks wanting to go out with a poverty-stricken social pariah who could literally rip her apart one night a month and who's decades ahead of her both in age and general life experience/maturity. Nor could I picture Remus wanting to go out with his dead best friend's young cousin (assuming that Remus and Sirius weren't lovers) who plays games with her appearance and how it changes, and who couldn't understand him and what he's gone through. Nor could I imagine Jo taking the page time to explain such a relationship between relatively minor characters when there's a war going on that she's got to write about, and so many more important plot points to get through.
That's not to say that I think Remus/Tonks is impossible, because it isn't. I just don't think that, if it happens, it could be explained to my (or many others') satisfaction, or that it would serve as a useful plot point. And if it does happen, and JKR does take the page time to explain it, then I'll wonder why JKR didn't spend that page time on more important things, like the revelation about Lily, or Voldemort's past, or whatever. Things useful to Harry's story.
So pretty much, if Remus/Tonks happens, JKR loses respect points in my book, and not just because my OTP is an opposing ship.
Anyway, those are just the most prominent rumors I've heard. I guess more will come as we get closer and closer to Saturday!

Date: 2005-07-11 07:16 pm (UTC)*sigh* Out of all the R/S shippers, you were the main one I was like "Oh man, wait till Rynne finds out!" lol.
Ok just to clarify, if R/T happens(and I can confirm that it will, it's true) will you accept it if she explains it? Or you won't like it no matter what?
