rynne: (FA wristbands! (smilie117))
[personal profile] rynne
[livejournal.com profile] thistlerose, I got the Kenshin manga! :D Now I've got numbers 2, 4, 8, 9, and 12, in Japanese.

I've been busy this weekend, hence the lack of posting. Had a dance recital on Sunday, and a gigantic project due in Gov (that I presented today), but I'm almost done with everything important in school.

I also graduate next Thursday. Wooow. It's so close...

Also, those with FA people on your flists have probably already seen this, but...

In March of 2005, Katie O'Brien, one of FictionAlley's longtime
writers lost her battle with leukemia. Even while she was in the
hospital fighting against her illness, she continued to find strength
as she wrote her story, assisted by her father, Dave O'Brien. As her
father said, "Katie always wanted to be a writer, and she used this
forum [FictionAlley] to fulfill her dreams. Correspondence with those
who read and enjoyed her story sustained her even during the worst of
times."

Katie finished writing her story six days before she died; her father
has continued to upload those
chapters
onto FictionAlley through the spring.

When we at FictionAlley learned that Katie had passed, we realised
that the best way we, as a site, could honour her memory would be to
provide other writers (as well as artists and those who are active
within their offline and online community) with some help in making
their dreams come true.

With the permission of Katie's family, we are in the process of
establishing a scholarship fund in Katie's name. $4500 in profit
raised from sales of these wristbands will go to fund the first three
years of the Katie O'Brien Memorial Scholarships - in 2006, we plan to
award one for writing, one for art, and one for community service;
each recipient will receive $500 (US) from FictionAlley to use towards
his or her education (including college, grad school or continuing
education classes).

If you live in the US, as of today, you can order wristbands here;
as of tomorrow afternoon, you'll also be able to order via that page
if you live in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Japan
or Mexico. Residents of all other countries (other than those to which
the US has embargoed goods) can order via FictionAlley as of tomorrow.
We wish that everyone could order via the wristspirit site, because
they're going to handle the packing and shipping for us and because
they get their packing materials at bulk discounts, but it's too
difficult for them to ship to every country, so we'll deal with
countries other than those listed above ourselves.

Anyhow, if you order by June 5, your wristband will be sent to
you by July 5, which means you should have it in hand to wear to the
HBP bookstore of your choice. We're also going to have the wristbands
available at some of the HBP book parties that FA staffers will be
attending and we'll have a list of the locations available shortly
(that's June Project #2!).

Feel free to ask any questions right here, or to gack a banner or
button

Have it link to www.wristspirit.com/Fundraiser.aspx?FRCode=FictionAlley please.

Thanks in advance for ordering, wearing your band, and helping provide
scholarships to some talented students!

I ordered one last night :) And this is the first time anyone will catch me wearing any of those silly bracelets, LOL :)

All sillyness aside, I think it's a wonderful idea. I'll gack a button later.

Hi - sorry, this isn't the right spot to ask about this, but I don't know where else to. I'm looking for an R/S fic, and you seem to have the largest collection (although I can't find it in yours, maybe I missed it?) It's the one where Lily, James and Sirius go on a MASSIVE shopping trip for Remus's birthday, during which a Kama Sutra incident reveals to Sirius that Remus is gay. any ideas where to find it?

I do know that one, even if it never made it to my list, but anyway. It's Outlined Joys by [livejournal.com profile] setissma, and, like everything she writes, is brilliant. :)

Hurrah, thanks for buying one! It's also the only time I've bought one of these bracelets as well. :)
